Default Anyone know owt about spray guns?

I have one here in France, a Clarke Air 1.4mm.

When it was first used it had a fan shaped spray, adjustable from horizontal fan to vertical.

Today, it's refused to produce the fan, just produces a round spray, smaller than before.

Have I adjusted it wrong, or is it blocked? It's NOT easy to take apart to clean, unlike my Badger modeller's airbrush

Are the two side vents near the nozzle blocked?

SK: no it feeds by suction from a pot underneath. It's virtually brand new, only used four times.

RC: the side holes aren't blocked, well, not obviously, but unlike my Badger, it's NOT an easy strip down, so I can't blow through holes, soak in brush cleaner, and broddle with a small brush etc.

PLUS: the instructions say NOT to immerse the whole thing in white spirit etc for fear of fekking the seals

same style of spray, conventional. NOT airless

have you sprayed oil base paint through it?

spray some white sprite/brush cleaner through it just to clear the spary tip and spary nozzle.
also remove the spary needle but un screwing the larger '***' at the end, that will allow the needle to pull out.

Generally, a spray gun will have 2 adjustment *****. The one on the rear is for paint delivery and the one on the side near the nozzle regulates the pressure to the holes in the "horns" either side of the nozzle, which regulates the spray pattern. Unscrewing this **** should allow more air through to the horns, making the spray more oval than round. Assuming this **** isnt screwed right in, it must be a blockage on the holes on the horns.

Sounds like it needs stripped down.

I stripped mine down the other day, its not really that hard, they are usually designed to be stripped down anyway?

Even the cheap as chips suction fed gun i got from ebay to use with cheap enamel paint, allows me to strip it down.

FWIW a dodgy spray pattern usually points to a blocked spraycap.

Railways: mostly locos, but a few wagons, in 7mm scale. I like diesels, but also have models of an A3 with GN tender and a Britannia, awaiting making.

On the shelf also awaiting making, are shunters, class 03, and 08, a Ruston PWM DE165, class 97/6, plus mainline diesels, classes 31/0, 47, 56 and 58

I also have a part made class 07, which I bought to see if I could rescue it, but haven't done so yet.

I've built a few wagons, mostly plastic, but one etched brass, too, but not painted owt yet, was awaiting sorting out the loft, but then the dreaded slipped disc struck. Maybe this autumn/winter

I have the most respect for those that can turn brass etch into models - it just amazes me.

I've cleared my loft of the slot car track and a half built OO gauge track to build one big OO gauge railway. Its 17ft by 10ft and I've designed two layouts. One that has only one layer and one that has a scenic layer and a storage/fiddle layer but the two layer design is very complicated and might be beyond me.

I was thinking of doing some 1/12 Tamiya F1 cars over the winter if the railway doesn't get off the ground. The McLaren MP4/6 looks lovely.

I'm on Modelrailforum and newrailwaymodellers. I'll join RMweb too I think. Theres a few forums out there its just choosing one with the most activity. I've posted my layouts with an idea to get some feedback but its a bit frustrating when you don't get any replies. Even a yes that looks OK or a no that looks rubbish would do.

I've never used a spray gun before. Only cans. Its something I'd like to get acquainted with once I get the majority of the track laid.
