French 'Bangers'
I feel like being a bit of a child again and blowing a few things up! Not in a 'Chaos-I'm-Going-To-Jail' type way, just with some Chinese fireworks I used to get in France all the time when I was a wee boy.
Are they illegal to bring back? Not that anyone will notice, I drove to Poland over the weekend (and flew back leaving my wife there) and didn't have my passport checked once.

My farming friends used to have access to items known as "crow scarers" which were serious pieces of ordnance (as in lose a hand if not thrown quickly).
Not seen those for a few years though.

You should see the device I have here in France, it's called a "DeTaupeur", or "De-Moler".
It consists of an electrically fired banger that is inserted down the mole run, leaving the hole to the outside open, with the firer arm down it. When the mole comes to block up the run again, he disturbs the firer arm and off goes the banger.
I can vouch for two things: if you were holding said banger in your fingers when it went off, you'd lose some part of your fingers, and they make a HELL of a mess of a mole in a tunnel

Talk to this bunch...
Maroons
Standard mini maroons are fun...
...a type 2 thunderflash is the size of 2 x AA batteries and will easily blow a plastic car-washing bucket into thousands of pieces... with a suitably loud bang and flash (what a surprise!). Much MUCH better than any 'banger'.
... a type 3 is the same length as a type 2 but think more C cell than AA.
They used to do electric ignition / strike ignition and "light the blue touch paper" type - not sure if they still do. A few type 2s, a reel of speaker wire and a 9v battery = fun!
Whilst not on the website, they also imported an interesting array of chinese fireworks - HSE have probably clamped down a bit on that these days though...

Blimey, brings back memories of school trips to France!
Remember how we'd think of ways to get them back without the teachers finding out. I stripped out a radio at home, removed a sticker inside the battery compartment, made a hole in the radio body and covered it over with the sticker. Then took it with me and filled it full of bangers and 'smuggled' them back
I also got hold of a load of rockets like that in Austria on a school skiing trip and let them off along the road all night while drinking vodka! ahh, school days..

The Mighty Atoms were good and there was another one whose name I can't remember.
We used to shoot treacle tins off the back of a shovel with them onto the local garage workshop's tin roof.
They used to hate us!
