Heads up stargazers
Starting from tonight until the 14th Aug.
the annual persieds meteor showers will be visible in the northern hemisphere
from midnight until the early hours..
The moon may make things difficult due to the current phase, but good
viewing is expected
Meteors travel N/E - S/W and can appear from any area of the sky,

Just come in from having a look,
clear sky, which was good, however the brightness of the full mon makes it difficult to get your night vision settled.
didnt see anything in the short time i was out, but its clouded over now.
will try again tonight

The moons a b*gger, from 10pm - midnight, its fairly low, so you can get a pretty good view of the sky, except the position of the earth is not to good, so i saw nowt...
We.d camped out last night, as my youngest wanted to see them, and wanted to camp out too...
2am..
Moon is virtually overhead, so i used the tent as a shield to loose some of the the glare from the moon lol...
saw nothing in almost 1/2 an hour... (normal non meteor, activity is roughly 4 per hour ) .. there saying roughly 20 per hour at the mo, So i would have expected something...
lets see how it fares over the next few days

apparently the 11/12th around 9pm till 11pm can see upto 200 per hour
The moon on the 11/12th will be aboutu 55% of its current brightness so should make things easier to see

Well, as I went out at about 10:30pm to collect the washing off the line I decided to spend a few mins looking at the stars. The moon was hidden by clouds, though most of the rest of the sky was clear. Within about 1 min I saw the largest meteorite I'd ever seen. It streaked across the sky with an orangey glow (not the usual white/blue of small ones) and left a definite orange/brown trail behind it which lasted for a few seconds at least. I was fully expecting to hear a crash as it hit the ground It came in from NE heading SW. I saw one or two smaller ones in the next 10 mins, plus about 5 satellites. Would have stayed out longer, but doubt I would have seen anything as spectacular as that first one.

Last night was cloudy where I am, but the forecast is clear(er) for tonight. Will be out as usual looking for them.

I might trot out tonight for a look. There's a road here which crests at 450m, with good views all round, absolutely no light pollution, and dark as pitch by 10pm, 9pm your time.

Was out last night about 10:30, saw 3 - two with proper smoke trails, plus 14 satelittes and 1 bat. All came from NNE, but the moon was too high/bright really by 11. Meant to peak tonight/thursday if its clear.

I've seen at least six of them flying around, didn't get mixed up with shooting stars either. One in particular, moved slower than the rest it was about as bright as a normal star then burned into a brighter white and slowly fizzled out ( quite spectacular to watch ).
