Sponge Bob Square Pants
Is it just me or is this cartoon totally freaky! It amazes me that it makes its way onto kids channels as it seems more like a Friday night late C4 acid-fuelled TV experiment.
Chowder is pretty much along the same lines - I am guessing derivative of SBSP.

Theres Phineas and Furb on Disney. I swear most of the jokes go right over my 7 year olds head.
The baddy in one episode refers to Ponzi Schemes - most adults won't know what a Ponzi scheme is.
Some of Spongebob gags go over the heads of kids too. I think its a nod to adults these days will have watched cartoons and will know adults watch with thier kids so add a little something to make the adults want to watch it too.
Theres an excellent Spongebob episode that has The Young Ones doing the voices of the chimps. Only Ade Edmundson is absent - thats got to be a special request.

if you think sponge bob is weird then keep an eye out for The grim adventures of billy and mandy.very strange and dark for a kids show, they seem to like having adult film references, theres one which is taken straight from kill bill.my kids love it not sure if thats a good or bad thing.

I love Spongebob, Patrick in particular - and I'm a tad older than being a kid.. and my 3 year old nephew loves it too, but is obviously a little too young to really understand it

It's not like it used to be with Battle of the Planets, He Man, Chorton and the Wheelies and Trumpton
I think it all started going weird with Ren and Stimpy, always thought that was strangely gory for a kids cartoon but very funny at the same time.
My kids don't watch most of the modern stuff apart from SBSP but have Boomerang on for timeless Tom and Jerry and Bugs Bunny/Looney Tunes. I can watch that for ages unlike the new stuff.
There is also a Nickelodeon's Classic channel which is great as it has all the kids stuff from 20+ years ago
