5kg over would usually get them wanting to charge you. Is there anything you can move to hand luggage?
Travelling in a group they will usually add the weight of all bags together to use your 45kg allowance.
When we came back from the USA with Monarch is was charged at $25 per 1kg ! We were 5.5 over...

PS we managed clothing for 2 weeks in the USA with a 15kg allowance on the way out, so leave some of the shoes and jeans etc behind lol

I dont use a suitcase either, just a large sports holdall (sp) Much lighter, pretty strong, and just as easy to pack and carry.
When we flew out with Virgin this year I was about 5kg under my allowance, as I have started to be more realistic about what I pack lol

lol @ a suitcase that weighs 6kg !! WTF lol
I have been using the same holdall for 4 years to the USA, used it to Dominican, snowboarding and everywhere else we have been. Bought it in Walmart the first year out there.

Not only is is better because it light. Its also got loads more compartments to pack. I would not use a suitcase out of choice again. The other half's suitcases seem to sustain more damage than my holdall.

When we flew to America, Thompsons - outbound - allowed the child we were with a 10Kg allowance but when we came back with Monarch he wasn't allowed any luggage so we had to distribute it between 7 of us, not me as I was on the 30Kg limit lol.

I usually use holdalls but as I knew I was bringing more fragile things back with me I preferred the rigidity of the suitcase.

Fragiles tend to go in my hand luggage. Laptops, digital cameras etc all get padded and packed into my hold luggage.

Me and my missus recently came back from Egypt, and had a combined weight allowance of 30Kgs
Ended up having 47Kgs on the way back, and they wanted £10 per Kg that we were over

Refused to pay the £170, and got them down to £100 in the end, robbing *******

It was either that, or lose a suitcase!

Ive just got back fom holiday number 2 in ibiza this year (Not my group of mates, i play footy with one lad who had a mate drop out at last minute, i got it for free!).

Flew with ryan air, what a bunch of ***** they are.

On the way out bag was 13.something kg,s (limit 15)

I lost some clothes and a pair of trainers so on the way back the bag should have been lighter, bit the spicks at the airport weighted it at 16.3 and demanded money for the extra kg,s.

I tried to tell them the scales were wrong, but they werent having any of it, the tw@s.

In the end i threw 2 beach towels away and sqeezed a couple of tshirts in my hand luggage!

I was at the front of the queue and these wrongly calibrated scales caused a problem for almost every passenger in the queue.

Ryan air will not allow pooling of luggage allowance either so there was lots of switching clothes from one bag to another, WTF is that about, dont they realise its the same total weight on the plane if im 3 kg over but put it in my mates bag cos hes 3 kg under. There was a couple with a new born baby who had to repack everything while the kid was screaming its head off, but again it was the same total weight at the end, so why make them repack?

After a bit of research it seems this is a regular occurance on ryan air flights, scales having people off on the way home, and i dont like the way the staff are made to enforce the policy so overzealously.

After more research it seems the **** who owns ryan air reckons you can go away for 2 weeks with around 8kg of luggage, including a suitable bag to carry in.

Id like to see this tw@ go away for 2 weeks with 8kg, most cases weigh half that!

And to top it all off ive had no reply from emails and it costs a pound a minute to ring up and complain!

I WILL NEVER FLY RYAN AIR AGAIN! ***** TW@S ******* *****!
