Question Which Way to Jump?

A good friend is in a dilema and needs your help .....

Would you buy a house, or a used Ferrari 430 .... house about £250k - car about £ 55k.

Buying the car would rule out the house, buying the house would rule out the car.

The car will drop to around £30k and stay there - the house 'may' go up to £300k in 3 years? The house could, of course, lose £50k!

Buying the house may pay for the 430 in 36 months time if the profit is taken .... but saving will also buy the 430 in around 24 months assuming £2k per month is put away for that purpose.

Car or House?

Bit of a daft question on a Car Forum ... but lets see where it goes.

Who cares what some bell-end chooses to buy based upon relative profit or loss? I buy things that I can afford and that I will either enjoy owning or using.

I'd buy the 430.

Then I'd sell it next day for a £20k profit, since the cheapest available is £75k atm

Then I'd buy the house, and use the 20k to balance off the equity I'd lose over the next year.

Do I win a prize?

I'll buy the 430 at that price if you give me the details, thus removing the temptation

Alas, the only 430's I know of at that price live in stables with unicorns.

430's are on forecourts with a ticket of £69,950 or thereabouts - about 8,000 miles - the usual 10% discount gives £63,000 without any haggling ...... I'm sure a skilled negotiator could trim another £8,000?

They can't sell 'em at the moment ...... will they go UP as the economy starts to take off in 6 months?

Should I tell him it could be a better investment than the house?

Perhaps if we all write:

"Pete, shut up, you ******", it might have an effect. Please feel free to copy and paste this response into your own posts.

Careful. One try-hard fool gave an infraction to someone saying: 'shut up Pete you pratt' (in a thread where the overwhelming concensus was that calling someone a pratt was not offensive).

get the house and save £10K for ******.

After all it's an easier way to get sh@g than to waste all that money on a 430
