Gritstone, limestone, sandstone, granite: all 'stone' for the purposes of insurance.

Granite emits radiation higher than background levels, owing to the decay of radioactive minerals within it. In extreme cases it emits Radon gas.

You might need insurance against contracting cancer.

There are loads in Scotland - especially Aberdeen. They need the radiation to keep warm

Virtually everything built in Aberdeen before the 60's is made of Granite (so 10's of thousands of them). Our previous flat had a granite facade. There wont be any problems insuring it.

All new builds in Granite areas ( Cornwall, Aberdeen, etc) now need to have underfloor extractor fans to remove the radon gas for exactly that reason

The only fail here is that a high street name insurer did not understand that a house could be made of granite or that granite is a stone.

But it is not brick!

Bricks are ground up stuff we dig out of the ground, mixed with water then baked in a very hot oven for a long time.

Granite is a rock made out of high pressure and heat in the middle of the earth until lots of rock melts and then solidfies as it cools. We blast it out of quarries with dynamite and make it into brick shapes to build things, or flat strips to make kitchen surfaces.

It is very hard. Very, very hard.
