Man or Woman? Let S-Net decide!
Semenya easily won the World Championship Gold medal last night in the Women's 800 metres. I'm saying nothing.
BBC SPORT | Athletics | Semenya told to take gender test
Some of the text is interesting:
"She was unknown three weeks ago"
"Semenya burst on to the world stage when she ran 1.56.72 in Bambous last month, smashing her previous personal best by more than seven seconds"
"In the case of this athlete, following her breakthrough in the African junior championships, the rumours, the gossip was starting to build up"

Read this this morning. Raises some interesting questions if found she used to be a he. If it was a bloke before having a sex change op are they then going to strip the medal and say she is still a bloke? That then says all sex change ops aren't legally recognised in sport? Is that already the case?
She is the most blokiest looking she I have ever seen so not surprising about the questions being raised but surely they have to be careful on the human rights side of things as well as sporting regulations?
If she is genuinely a she then this must be horrendous to go through.

I just feel sorry for her. It is out of order for the IAAF or whoever to bring this into the public domain until conclusions area reached. They don't name any other alleged cheats until the tests are complete.
Now, even if everything is found to be above board, the "no smoke without fire" brigade will have ammunition.

I thought it wasn't a question of was she ever a "he" but was she born with woman genilalia but is actually a man. She's been brought up as a girl/woman since birth.
If found so..then "unfair advantage" will be the vertict and she will be banned..even though she's technically never cheated.

I don't believe you can have a woman born with man bits or a man born with woman bits.
Prusemably once they've asked her to lift up her frock and have a poke about the truth will be told.

All seems very odd to me. Those South Africans will be sending out men with springs for legs and women running in bare feet next!

Surely it is only cheating if it was a case of a bloke pretending to be female to win at a sport through unfair advantage?
What ever the result is the details of this should have been kept private until concluded. By all means say there is an investigation but to then go on to details how they are going to medically prod and test is wrong in my opinion. Very humiliating.

Surely even the simplest of people would have expected a reaction if a relative unknown smashes their previous time and then would expect some sort of investigation, if not then the athlete truly is "special".
It is a tough one mind. On one hand a shim would have a better advantage in an all female race/event but on the flip side how can they be banned if in all other "jobs" it is allowed/accepted etc.

It's about testoserone levels... normal v's accepted... and how much advantage (strength and power) that gives a trans gender athelete... a trans-gender woman athelete will have an unfair advantage over another female athelete, equal rights or not... If they allow gender altered atheletes to compete on equal terms, then next we'll have testosterone injections legal in womens athletics.

got to love the quote in the video "Its upto the IAAF to ask, discretly for a gender test" and just how do you do that then?
"Look love, we there you're a bloke......"

The article states the gender test takes a long time ?? how so ?? If its got ovaries, then its a woman.
Mind you, make her sit and watch TopGear and if she cant stop taking through it, like my g/f, then its definately a woman.

Glad to see that the SNetters are now experts in the art of determining sex of an ambiguous person! You have got to feel bad for her/him, because she/he didn't have a partial/full sex change just to win a womans event. No-one would go that far, would they? Or would they, mwahahaha(in high pitched voice!)
