Question What Happens?

All the Petrol Stations have been running out of petrol today - everyone filling up before the tax hike at midnight ...... and it got me thinking as I filled up from the only pump with fuel.

What happens when the fuel pump you are using runs out of fuel?

Do you get the dregs?

Do you get a warning?

Does it just stop ... even if you have only put a couple of litres in?

Or are there underground pumps which pump the fuel between different tanks?

I got petrol this morning, I got petrol this evening. Just drove back from getting some cash out at the local BP, and saw a couple of cars in there getting petrol.

All stations running out of petrol? It must be a strange area you live in Pete. All those "professional" neighbours of yours saving the pennies eh?

Why waste money, when it's so simple to avoid it?

Some Petrol Stations were roped off - run out ....

All the local petrol stations up here, put their prices up this morning.
That includes Morrisons, who is claiming they are not doing it till the 6th.

All the stations around Plymouth were heaving but I put it down to Bank holiday travellers, Tesco did have a few pumps out but nothing to flap about.

You must be very happy with the £1.80 saving you've made. Gonna make a world of difference that is. When the reaper finally comes to get you, you can be happy in the knowledge that in your lifetime you managed to save £1.80 in the September 2009 fuel duty hikes.

No queues around ere, not sure what all the fuss is about.

As for how a petrol pump works, yes Pete, it stops.

If there is no fuel to pump up, it won't go.

I would expect that when the fuel stops flowing then the pump would be switched off-but I don't know for sure.
