Unhappy Life Sometimes Isn't Fair ..

There recently was a death of a 98 year-old lady named Irena. During WWII, Irena, got permission to work in the Warsaw Ghetto, as a Plumbing/Sewer specialist. She had an 'ulterior motive' ..... She KNEW what the ****'s plans were for the Jews, (being German.) Irena smuggled infants out in the bottom of the tool box she carried and she carried in the back of her truck a burlap sack, (for larger kids..) She also had a dog in the back that she trained to bark when the **** soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto. The soldiers of course wanted nothing to do with the dog and the barking covered the kids/infants noises.. During her time of doing this, she managed to smuggle out and save 2500 kids/infants. She was caught, and the ****'s broke both her legs, arms and beat her severely.. Irena kept a record of the names of all the kids she smuggled out and kept them in a glass jar, buried under a tree in her back yard. After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived it and reunited the family. Most had been gassed. Those kids she helped got placed into foster family homes or adopted.

Last year Irena was up for the Nobel Peace Prize ... She was not selected..

Al Gore won, for a slide show on Global Warming.

On the Anniversary week of the start of WWII - just take a moment to remember what those years cost some people.

not diminishing the heroic feat she performed, it's not certain she was up for a nobel peace prize and I can see why Al Gore's efforts procured him the prize... topical and not just a slide show either.

Yes, I'm sure he put his life on the line every day as he did his slide show and risked torture if it was no good

I think at the end of Schindler's List, its stated that there are more Jewish people alive in Poland today than survived the war due to his efforts during the war.

I'm sure the same (or similar) would be true of her. What was her name..

I think that she deserved an award for what she did and the risks she took to save those children and to outwit the Kraut arseholes! It should not be forgotten how vicious and heartless they were in all respects.

If the Peace Prize can be awarded to Gore for his rantings then Irena more than deserved it.

Pete's point about remembering the heroic actions of so many during those black times is very apt.

She did some amazing things, she lived a long life and saw the benefits that her actions provided, I dont think an award would have been that big a deal in comparison, I suspect she died very satisfied with her endeavours.

I think you are right J4CKO, but the award would have brought what she did to light which would be no bad thing.

No, it wasn't just a slide show, but has it not been demonstrated that Al Gore's crus'de was, well, a load of pish, based on nothing but fiction?

I'm with Pete on this. People like Irena demonstrate extreme courage and selflessness.

I am with Pete. I think on one hand, she probably has those individuals thank her in their prayers every night, but on the other hand, the award would have been nice too.

It took her some courage to do that, and she payed the price.
