Default Anyone bought a property in Bulgaria?

I have been looking at some very run down stone and brick properties that are as cheep as chips and some dont look too bad for the money

here is an example
house-show

I wondered if anyone knew anything about The Bulgarian housing market and the laws on buying property out there through personal experience

Has anyone here been for a holiday there?

I think the big barbed wired fence around the perimeter says something, rough as arseholes

The only thing i know is that there is a huge castle owned by Baron Bomburst overlooking a massive valley and lake. Very nice setting but they don't like children.
If you are looking to move, be aware of a strange man selling lollipops and an even stranger man in a flying car who keeps singing

The date on the pic is 2 years old so its probably even more dilapidated. I used to have some customers that had a small hotel and some other property out there which they said was a gold mine, I'm not sure i believe them though.

The second one i have posted up looks good. I haven't heard of many bad experiences

There are so many bargains if you know what you are looking for. I want a nice big bit of land too for my chickens

My mates mum and dad have a holiday home over there and within a few weeks of setting the place up it as burgled. It now has metal shutters on the down stairs doors and windows. The town its in ( cant mind the name ) is run by the local mafia.

There was a story in the papers last week i think of a retired english couple that bought a house over there for cash. Because they bought it for cash the locals thought they were loaded. They were beaten up and robbed of what little they had.

I would do loads of investigation into the area before buying anything.

If i remember you needed to register a bulgarian limited company to own land or land that

came with a property as under the current constitution foreigners cannot directly hold title

to land. But dont know if this has changed now though.

That sounds bad. I suppose something like that can happen anywhere but i know what you mean. I was chatting on a forum to some ex pats the other day and have heard similar things, but they do seem to be isolated incidents. I suppose if you are tucked away in the middle of no where you are more vulnerable. Tony Martin springs to mind, lucky i have an air rifle

You must remember that Bulgaria is a third world country controlled by the Mafia. Unless you want your kids stolen and sold into the sex trade i'd avoid it like the plague

Thats the thing, you never hear about the good stuff, just the bad. I am hoping to go out for 4 days in October to get a better idea of what is what.

You see some seemingly fab places but who knows

I wouldnt say its that bad,
But you do have to be on your wits,
The beaches are incredible, famous beaches there, also there is amusements etc along the front, there are lots of ex pats there,
It is very similiar to how Benidorm started,

Youl be fine, you can buy a gun pretty cheap there

Its got to be easier than owning a property in Spain, less red tape

well with spain,
you have to be in the know, thats where im from,
Too many people just jump in and dont go to the ayunamiento, (town hall) and check land registry, they trust the wrong people,

im sure Bulgaria is same

Look what happened to the properties owned by Brits in Valencia, so far this doesn't seem to be the case in Bulgaria.

I have a huge amount of research to do yet but the more i have chatted to people out there the more i am liking the idea of owning a cheap Bulgarian property.

A lot of houses have more than one building on the land and it would be great to be able to rent out one of these for holiday lets.

I have yet to sample a beach but it all looks good

Our old neighbours were beaten to a pulp out there and robbed, and that was just the police

Why the EU let it join I will never know
