Default Any pharmacists on here?

If so, I have a question: IS co-proxamol going to continue to be made, or IS it to be phased out completely?

The reason I ask is that it's what I take for back pain, have done for a while now, and have tried other stuff which either constipates me, or does nowt.

Today, I had a phone call from our practise pharmacist telling me that due to EC regs, it would be phased out entirely.

But a phone call from me to MHRA resulted in me being told that there is no such requirement from the EC, and that there is no notice issued that it will cease to be made

So..........can anyone offer definitive info either way?

TIA

I thought that Co-proxamil was being phased out, but I'm probably wrong. Personally, I hate the stuff........makes me feel weird and gives me bad dreams.

I could find out on Monday, but no doubt someone else will know for definite.

Well, the above what I have, but I also have a letter from MHRA stating that after withdrawal it would continue to be available to named patients on license from their doctor, so went down that road. I DI try everything else, but to no avail, the only thing that touched the pain was Tramadol, which is FAR too strong, gives me hallucinations and allso constipates me, although not anywhere near as badly as codeine preparations.

I've been getting it that way for some time, but as I say, have been told today firstly that it will become unavailable, then secondly, that it won't, so need a definitive answer.

Certainly, Tesco, from who my precriptions come, had no problems last week.

'Phased withdrawal'
Is already now an unlicensed drug, and GPs won't start new patients on it.
Some GPs will keep prescribing it while it is still available, but eventually supplies will simply run out. Good idea to try some alternatives while you still have supply to fall back on.
Very unlikely that any GP will agree to apply for license to prescribe on named patient basis.
As the demand (ie number of prescriptions) falls, there is less incentive for any company to import it.

The lady at MHSA told me that there was NO intention to stop production.
