Default For all you Quartz fans. (watch related)

I have always posted pictures of my Automatic watches, so I thought it was about time to show you one of my Quartz watches.

It is a Breitling Jupiter Pilot, with it being Quartz (battery powered) it doesnt run dead like my autos 48hrs after taking it off.

It is extremely accurate, and the silver on black makes it easy to read.

Ther are a number of models of the JP, this being the latest...

My model is a late 1995 the ref model No is A59028, it has a new dial and hands compaired to its older brother.

The word "REVEIL" is French for "ALARM" as this watch was destined for France, but I bought it before it got there.

The previous model had a round date window @ 5 o'clock, mine is squared, and the hands are revised with the luminous super nova compound divided into sections, and the red part of the second hand is now at the tip.

The dial colour options are silvered with black sub-chrono's, black with silvered sub-chrono's, blue with silvered sub-chrono's.

As you will know a Quartz watch will tick ie. the seconds finger will move @ 1 increment per second, as oppossed to a good automatic which will beat @ 38,800 beats per hour or BPH, and this gives the impression that the seconds finger is sweeping.

Also with this watch you get an audable beep when using the stop watch function buttons, and an alarm, which is unbelievably loud.

It has a bi-direction smooth soft touch bezel, which can be used as a sliderule for an array of flight computations.

This watch is the only watch I have owned were the minutes finger moves at 3 increments per minute, ie it will move once every 20 seconds, very odd.

It comes with a nice BakerLite box with black neoprene cussion and walls..

Specifications:

You cant buy a new one now, they dont make them anymore.

I paid £860 for it 1995/6 from BeaverBrookes in Liverpool, I wasnt going in to buy this watch but the Breitling rep was visiting and he had this in his case as a sample, it was destined for France...but I bought it there and then.

You may find a good one A1 with all boxes/papers from between £1200-£1500, and a battered one for about £800 if your lucky.

The latest model A59028 is the one to have and holds the best money.

All service parts are still available for this model.

Yep looks good that yoza .

Quick question if you dont mind .

I was in a jewellers the other day getting a battery in my wifes watch .

Whilst there I enquired about getting mine serviced, Breitling chronomat automatic .I was quoted what looked a standard price out of a book ,£350 ,with any parts needed included .Bearing in mind it works and is not broke ,I dont think it needs any parts ,but it has never been serviced in the 10 years or so I have owned it .It does lose a few minutes fairly regular these days .

My question ,is ,is this a reasonable price for a service .The jewellers send it away ,and they said they would polish up the metal bracelet to take out some of the scratches for free ,once they get it back serviced .

What do you think of the cost of service ?
Regards
Rob.

You will find that the service will not be carried out at the jeweller shop, they are sent off to authorised main agents for servicing.

Mine have been going to a place in Milton Keynes, £350 for a service on that model is over priced by about £80-£100 IMHO.

When you get it back it will look like it did the day you bought it.

But if its not battered, just losing time, I would suggest getting the movement alone cleaned/oiled and calibrated, circa £150.

Cheers yoza ,they did say they send it away .

It has some gold worn off the adjuster ,but they said they couldnt recoat it but they would just take the scratches off the bracelet when they get it back from the service people .

I may enquire at another jewellers .

To be honest they charged 45 quid for a new battery in my wifes Raymond Weil ,which is 20 quid more than I paid last time at another jewellers .

Thanks Again .

Fair play that is a beautiful watch. Is it a similar size to a navitimer on the wrist?

Have got a colt gmt and wouldn't mind one like that for a different look. If you consider selling in the future I would be interested.

I would have gladly made a Donation, but watches bore you.

You have old me this 'time' and 'time' again, so I dont think you would appreciate one.

Chers.

I'm waiting to see if my money will stretch to a used Pam 111/112 (Grail watch) when I get my compensation for my car smash in march, but I think a used Breitling is more likely. I'll prob look at a quartz.

A question for Yoza , i returned my tag formula 1 to the shop yesterday with the complaint that the second hand does not line up with the second markers on the dial. The shop took it back under duress as if i were being to fussy, i pointed out to the chap that its a £725.00 watch and in the brochures its described as a high quality time piece. Am i being unreasonable being as i have a few cheap watches that the hands all line up perfectly on. Thanks Jay

That is lovely. Bit dubious with buying off ebay, I want to know that if I buy second hand it has come from a *trusted* background.

In reality my next purchase will be a patek phillipe.

No not unreasonable at all...

Ive had a Tag 2000 thats bezel pip would not line up with 12 o'clock, it was inbetween clicks on its rachet, it stunk of bad workmanship.

I dont like most Tags, Ive seen lots of quality issues with them.

Your repair will be straight forward they will slightly rotate the dial, even if you have a date window you will never notice.

I noticed that, well spotted.

I also noticed that the main shot was a ramdom photo from a Breitling album, not IMHO the same as the one in the box.

Leading me to believe there are marks on the watch for sale.

But thats E bay for you.
