God, I LOATHE this Labour government.
They appear to be going ahead with removing co-proxamol from use, now by stopping it being MADE in the UK, so it can only be imported, at MUCH HIGHER cost
I already have to get my doctor to prescribe it on his own cognizance.
And why? Because a few people, (less than 100), overdosed on it accidentally.
Now me, I've been on it for years, and it's the only thing that touches my pain without either zonking me out, giving me hallucinations, or constipating me badly.
The practise pharmacist wants me to try co-dydramol, so I asked if it contained codeine, and she says, "No".
I check, and not only DOES it, but it's also HIGHLY addictive.
This bloody Labour nanny state. Why can't they mind their own business? They are even trying to tell people the directive has come from the EC, (Don't blame US, it's the EC............as usual), but it hasn't, and the other EC states ARE NOT in agreement.
So........dishonest nanny state, to boot.
Get 'em voted out, soonest

Oh and by the way there was a programme on Radio 4 earlier this week regarding the potential limiting or banning of any drug cintaining codeine so I should avoid those too. The nanny state is your friend

isnt it the simple case that some people
1. don't like being told what to do &
2. don't like operating within the confines (rules & obligations) of a society
apologies if you are "living in the hills with an M16" and do view the US federal government as a socialist state BTW

They are addictive, i know junkies like them
dihydrocodeine or DF118's are what heroin users use instead of smack

What a selfish thought. YOU never HAD to take them, you could have refused, asked for something different, etc.
But don't spare a thought for the literaly thousands of people who are now going to struggle with untreated pain, will you?
Most drugs are addictive, co-proxamaol less so than MANY others. Two a day isn't some addicts dose.

If you have become addicted to them then i am sure there is help available.
By them being banned it might stop more unfortunate people becoming addicted to them in the future, surely that can only be a good thing.
You could have refused the tablets, you did not have to take them either. I always make sure i know what i am taking.
And no, 2 a day is not what addicts take but if they are on the market then they will be able to get more

Are you on a wind-up, or just daft?
IIRC I exchnged a few PM's with you recently over you thinking that I was doing exactly what you are now doing.
Please note the following, BEFORE replying:
1. I am NOT addicted to co-proxamol, and ONLY take them when needed for ongoing back/neck pain. If I could wish you a fortnight of the same, you'd soon see why
2. I DID have to take them, still do. What am I SUPPOSED to do? Endure pain? Have sleepless nights due to pain? Take something else which constipates me as WELL as being useless? Then start a lifetime of laxatives to put that right?
3. "Stop others becoming addicted"?????? That IN NO WAY plays any part in WHY they have been removed from prescription.
I don't really know where you are coming from over this, unless yopu ARE on a wind-up. You are the first pertson on here to whine when owt happens to you, but are summarily dismissive of others' problems.
There is no wonder that other thread about you was started.
Kind regards, TT

I have been prescribed Co-Dydramol for a few years now. Its is an excellent painkiller but I have been alive to the possibility of addiction to painkillers so I have been careful to take them only when I really need to.
Have not had any side effects at all anyway.
I really think it is only a matter of common sense how you use them and when it comes to the risk of taking an overdose deliberately, well there there are enough ways to do away with yourself and try as they might, they won't be able to prevent that happening!
If you overdose accidentally, there is no excuse since the dosage is plain to see and one would expect a doctor to have made the possibility of the dangers known to the patient in such a case.

What is it i am doing to you then, you have me very confused?
Yep you sent me a patronizing pm telling me i should get a hobby or something like you have, WTF? I dont know who you think you are but you accuse me of vacuous comments when all you can do is spam the front page with whinging moaning threads.
I gave my opinion and i thought it was valid. What gives you the right to call me selfish?
You have had an operation for your back (yes its all here somewhere )so you should be on the mend and getting off the painkillers not moaning about them being taken off the market. My nan was refused them a long time ago as they are so addictive and she nearly died so i do know what i am talking about.
I am prescribed morphine for my back problem which is slowly paralyzing me so dont try to teach me to suck eggs. I only take the meds when i need to so i dont end up in your situation.
You obviously have a problem with me, hence your user name. Its very childish for a man in his 50's to make up a user name to cause upset to another person. Its a shame that your original posts have been deleted.
Why dont you use Alcazar anymore out of interest?

Being an *rsehole, maybe? Out to wind me up? getting revenge? being spiteful? Take your pick, lady, they all work for me.
I Sent YOU a PM????????? Let's have it right Sarah, YOU Pm'd me after I joined into a thread about you that YOU didn't like. I apologised and now YOU are trying to get even. How shallow.
BTW: How ironic that Sarahsquares accuses someone else of spamming? ROFL.
Your opinion, however valid you think it, is worthless, since YOUR opinion is based on what the pills do to YOU...selfish, or what??
You know nothing. My operation was to remove a disc which was touching my spinal cord, and, as such, was succesful.
However, I went back for my follow up visit this last monday, to find that the pains I NOW have, along my left arm, in my shoulder, and more importantly, in my left hand, are nerve damage related from the SAME disc pressing for TOO LONG on my brachial nerve, and will, almost certainly , be a lifetime of pain. There is nothing more they can do, was what he told me.
So........a lifetime of pain to come. YOU tell me what I'm supposed to do if the only painkillers that work for me, are removed from my use? You seem to know everything, and have an answer for everything, so go ahead.
WHAT situation? What, ecactly, are you accusing me of here? I want it spelled out so that action can be taken against you.
HAD a problem with your post-whoring style in the early days. Which you seemed to have got over. Now we see better. Yes, my present username came from that.
Because I can't find the original password, and couldn't be bothered to search it out via this site. OK??????
I'm not responding to any more of your posts on this matter. I've said what I have to say. You are obviously trying to get some sort of revenge for my joining in on that other thread. So be it. Go ahead. It'll put your post count up nicely The fact that, like most of your posts, those you add to this thread are either muppetising, or spiteful, will not stop you.
If you want to go ahead and actually accuse me of something, then please do, on this site, so I can have your accusations looked at.
Kind Regards, TT

Your paranoid mate.
All of this because of my comments in post 12?
When have i ever made spiteful comments>
Yes, i sent you a pm asking what your problem was as you made a derogatory post about me in another thread. In return you sent me one telling me what you do with your spare time and that i should try it as well.
Its is you with the problem. You have not retaliated to anyone else that has posted in a way that was not to your liking. You posted up a thread and i made a comment, get over it.
And just for the record i wasn't trying to wind you up, it was my thoughts on the matter that you have taken out of context.
The early days as you call them was muppets and everyone in there posted huge amount, mostly crap but that was what the place was about. But you had to take things one step further and troll me with tanyatriangles. You are a pathetic childish little man
I think you need to wind your neck in and get over yourself.

If a drug is abused by the druggies, and some die.... oh, what a shame.
Sorry life is about taking personal responsibility for your actions, some say we should give the druggies their fix, I agree. It would stop the beggars thieving from us ordinary folk.
I knew a guy, with neck pain, ( Sorry I forget the medical terminological inexactitude for it ) who was addicted to co-codamol (?) and he was in a real mess trying to cope without THE ONLY painkiller that had an positive effect on his quality of life.
TT good luck with the vet in the USA, who is supplying your cat with medication
dunx
P.S. SS get a hobby

There must be thousands of drugs on the market that can be used. I find it hard to believe that someone would not be able to find an alternative drug to help with the pain. Maybe i am wrong. You become dependent on it, surely thats not good.
Look what happened to MJ
P.S. I could tell you what my hobby is but i cant get into the adult section

If you do a bit of searching, co-proxamol and co-dydramol are very similar drugs, as both are from the same family of drugs (opioid analgesic), the same family from which codeine comes. But neither is codeine as such.
It may be worth trying it to see what effect it has, as looking on one site, they sound like they do the same thing with the same possible side effects. You may find it as effective and have no problem with it. Looking at the information, there's nothing to suggest you would be anymore likely to become addicted to co-dydramol than what you have been taking.

No, if we're splitting hairs, it doesn't. If you want to play that game the only difference between methylamphetamine and ephedrine (and thus pseudoephedrine) is an -OH (hydroxy) group. But I like to think that you'd understand that they are different? Then there's the fact that both codeine and dihydrocodeine are related to morphine - but they're not the same thing. The human body is complicated, and even minor differences in molecules can make a major difference in effect. And sometimes no difference of course. Since neither codeine nor DHC are copyright, the only reason for them both to be used is because they affect different people differnetly. Because they are different.
