FAO Watch experts. Ideally Watch salesmen.
Hi Guys,
Ive 99% decided its time to buy a new watch and its going to be a Breitling. What id like to know is:
Q) Does anyone on here know for a fact how much leeway a salesman has on average when haggling over a new Breitling retail price in an authorised dealers?
Thanks in advance for any help you may give. Im away on holiday and thought the forum is a great place to get an answer to this question given the huge cross section of people usingh it, but can only pop in here when the wife's sunbathing. LOL

I got about 15% off my Breitling when buying from goldsmiths for cash. That was about 3 years ago. I did know the salesgirl and she said that was the very maximum she could do for me.
Have been looking again and have already got 10% off without any proper hagling.
What model are you looking at?

in Barbados a few years ago I bought a TAG for my then business partner and my brother in law bought an Omega Seamaster
both were signifcantly cheaper than the UK
(without paying import duty obviously)

I don't know about discount on Breitlings. However, I got 20% off an Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean big size with the orange bezel from a Goldsmiths jewellers at the beginning of the year.

Can I be the first to say...Oh no, another watch thread
You can exchange Tesco vouchers for 4 times their face value to use at Goldsmiths...
Tesco.com - rewards - Unexpected error

Congratulations, excellent choice, I hope you got the BigDate.....
But I doubt you got the optional UTC, but if you did better again.
Depending upon where you are, I would suggest posting the empty box and papers to your home address, and wear the Blackbird (which you have owned for a while) on the flight home, just incase you damage the box...
Put plenty of factor 50 on, and dont burn...
If you did buy the watch from a guy on the beach, dont get it wet.......and enjoy it while you can, remember it will be spot on twice a day!

Nice watch Stu.
Just took my Navitimer World to get a service at the weekend. Was having a browse at all the loverly Breitlings they had in. Still tempted by the SuperOcean. Steel Braclet with Orange face. Not keen on the Rubber strap, and they don't do the SuperOcean with a Leather strap. Chrono SuperOcean for the Leather.
Either another Breitling next year, or I really do like one of the Oris Drvers watches.

A few pics of the new watch. I went for the ultra polished version, its gorgeous.
I am well happy with this watch and already have my eye on my next one for next year. This could become an expensive hobby. lol
P.S: Due to having a one year old baby we have rented a cottage and are holidaying in the lakes this year so I bought this from a dealer in Windermere. Got a good discount from the £5070 retail but paid more than some links shwon here. Im happy though as these watches arent about the money and not being an expert I need to know its real.

So you expect a salesman to reveal the major weapon in his armoury, the discount he has available, but you're not prepared to reveal exactly what discount you achieved If a salesman had answered the OP with "good" that wouldn't have been much help would it.

Some Jewelers are just greedy though. Was at the Metro Centre, and was wanting to but a Oris Divers watch. Retail £1680. The guy wouldn't even knock £1 off. Guess what? No sale.
I know I can walk into Market Cross Jewelers in Middlesbrough and get 15% off straight away. And that is exactly where I'll go next year.
PS. The price of Breitling have risen quite sharply this year. Navitimer Worlds are over a Grand more than what I paid 2 years ago.

Not at all mate, Im more than happy to tell anyone whos interested. I paid £4400 for it but judging by some info around the net more than the 15% discount I recieved is available if you haggle harder, but not knowing my onions with the watch market I was unable to achieve that discount on thia occasion but im still very happy with the purchase and importantly, the service i received. The one on one service from an experienced dealer is of course one of teh main things we pay for with these watches.

Stu you may want to deleate the picture showing the case back.
You paid top dollar, but you bought from an AD authorised dealer...good for you.
PS. Your strap is too tight let it out 1 pip...

Yoza, I know you will hate this, but as a rep how does this compare ?

A rep doesnt ever compair to the real thing...ever.
But **** me, if those pictures are of the watch you get, thats good.
It even has AR on the crystal, and no threads on the first 3mm of the crown shank as the original.
Its so close from the pictures, that I would hazard a guess that the pictures are of an original.
These spot the differences are getting harder.
But they are only pictures, there is a lot to be said for the feel/sound/ and actually seeing the original in real time.
I will stick my neck out and say that if I had Stuarts watch and a replica (however good), one in each hand the differances through just touch and feel would be obvious.
ODD QUOTES FROM REP WEB SITE:
Please understand that we provide a service on factory¡¯s reps : all watches supplied are the one you ordered by choosing them on our webstore, based on our own pictures, exactly as manufactured by the rep factory, working as it was designed to. That means that if the factory designed a bad watch, we will apply their warranty but cannot be held responsible if all their batches are the same. We do not pretend to deliver 100% accurate replicas, as we cannot make replicas better than what they are in the factory

That website generally does post pics of the actual replicas and not the gen, as can be seen from a quick check of other watches
quite a few of the higher end reps are watersealed (sometimes an extra cost) and AR on the crystal
I know what you mean about the feel/sound etc
For curiosity I actually bought a Tag Formula 1 as my bro in law has a real one and to look at the images of each they looked virtually indistinguisable, side by side you can see the very very subtle differences, and they are only subtle (but noticeable side by side)
on a wrist it would be difficult to disntiguish the real or fake (unless side by side)
for info though the blackbird rep is 368 dollars so not a cheap rep by any means

Loverly Watch you have brought there Stu. A little to shiny for what I would of chosen, but non the less a loverly time piece.
I know the watch shop you are mentioning in Windermere and their watches do seem a little more pricey than what I have seen in Goldsmiths shops.

Does anyone know (And i guess I am shamelessly directing this question at you Mr Yoza) why I am not allowed to adjust the time or date between 8pm and 3am?
I can accept it as fact, even though its the worst possible time to be restricted with such an action as that may be when your picking it up to head out on the town or to a casino... But id love to know why exactly that is a restriction?

But if you run the hands around past midday, then through midnight, you will see your date click/snap over at bang on midnight, this is the sign of a proper movement....a bit like a Cal44.
Rememeber the rule only applies to QUICKSETTING between these hours.
