Default Are people for real? 2

Went to B & Q for some plasterboard for inbetween beams

Asked one chap there, can I cut the boards here first so I can get them in the car

He - replied laughing, like your style mate

Me - I am going to pay for them!

He - We cant cut them here anyway

Me - I'm cutting them

He - You cant here, health and saftey, you will have to take them outside first

Forget it, went to another place round the corner where they said yeah, no problem

So after paying, I cut them and went to the open roller shutter exit (no barrier or anything) to be told by the chap there

He - you cant go out here mate, leave them there, go around to the exit and i'll pass them to you

WHAT

So I waked round to the outside and he said yeah, you can take them now, so I had to walk back in and wheel them out!!

what was that about, walked back in to where I was in the first place and wheeled em out!!

kin unbelievable

Unhappy

purchased a boot mount bike rack a week or so back, cost 100.00, it is a good one and the bikes cost a lot more!

asked the guy in the shop if someone could help me fit it the first time and was told 'no' due to health and safety/insurance issues.

Can kind of understand that, if he ***** up fitting it then while driving your bikes go flying and kill a pedestrian the liability could return to them.

Whereas if you fitted it it's your fault if something goes wrong, of course you insurer would most likely pick up the bill unless they can prove negligence on you part e.g. you only attached one strap when there were four etc.

As for B&Q, they're normally quite helpful when I go in there and will cut up big sheets of ply etc. for you. I take it they won't cut the plasterboard up for you then? As for sawing it yourself even in the car park you would still fall under their health and safety policies. As for sawing it up in-store I totally understand as you could injure yourself or someone else in the process and the first port of call from the HSE would be with them as to why they allowed it to happen in the first place.

.

Then again say the shop work on/fix my bike yet the brakes fail and i hit and injure a pedestrian then surely it is the same. They sold me the item, i spent a grand in the shop incl. the rack and they cannot help fit it, yet they happily PDI'd the bikes before leaving the shop seems to be little difference really.

Trout i complain about bad service and compliment on good service, thats the way it should be. If you cannot whinge moan and belittle on SN then WTF is this place coming to...

I reckon that if these PC Plonker H&S prats have their way, we will only to be allowed to go out for a walk if there is a man with a red flag walking in front of us. The man of course will have done the "Walking and Carrying a Red Flag" course and will even be fully qualified to speak to customers without prejudice!

You are on a loser Trout!

Paul,

there is a large chasm, indeed an abyss between highlighting good service, seeking out bad service; and 'WTF is this country coming to'.

Having a bike shop not fitting a rack is not bad service - unless they were rude and impolite about it. They are bike specialists and will be insured for being bike specialists. They are not bike rack fitting specialists so I am guessing they are not insured for that - which makes complete sense to me. Personally I wouldn't want them fitting it as I would want to do it myself and look after my car.

Simple choice but strangely in making an informed choice I don't think the world is coming to an end or the country is on its knees.

Leslie,

the only people who are on to a loser are the luddites and ostriches who cannot cope with progress and accept that the world will always keep changing as that is a force of nature.

My 4 year old son has just had his first week in school.

He has come home with the front his pants completely covered in Yogurt, when I asked the teacher what happened she said he spilt his yogurt at dinner.

I asked why wasnt it wiped off, I was told that because it was in his lap they were not allowed to help him.

I had to sign a form to allow him to partake in massage, rubbing other pupils shoulders, get his photo taken, get undressed for gym, going out to play in the woods, go out to the library, go on trips..etc, its all a bit mad.

He has problem pulling up his undies and new pants ofter the loo, as he is not used to the buttons and belt, so he comes home with them all scrunched up and looks uncomfortable as ****, but again they cant hepl him.

Does my head right in.

Trout,

A ludite is averse to the adoption of technology, what has plasterboard and a bike rack go to do with technology?

Nor has my experience made me want to dash up to Yorkshire on my bike and smash oop 't mills neither!

Trout, not all change is good, for the better or inevitable, being able to recognise the good parts and embracing those are what separates the winners from the losers.

A bike rack is an accessory, like lights, helmets, tools, shoes, glasses, bottle cages, etc. If the shop cannot help you fit them then that is not good service IMHO. Do you really think the shop would let you leave with a poorly fitting helmet or even bike???

If you cannot see the point I made about service then best leave it at that

the health and safety ***** will be closing down 1 or 2 Animal Farm/Zoos next -- all because they are infected with a potentially fatal e-Coli bug which has left several small kiddies on kidney dialysis machines!!!

You weren't the Luddite - you were the ostrich

And yes, I can't see your point about service. I mean, my dentists assistant is gorgeous but when I go to the dentist and when I lie back and she doesn't give me a handjob then I think I may be off piste to complain about bad service, just a service she doesn't offer.

Now, if she was rude when I asked then that may be bad service

A similar thing happened to my little lad a couple of years ago. Shall we say he was a little un well in the toilets and was not helped or cleaned up until my wife collected him

I made an appointment and spoke to the head, explaining that it was reasonably foreseeable that a young child would require help in the toileting department and it was negligent for a school not not have a policy for dealing with this.

I got an apology and was told that the teacher who hadn't helped my son was in the wrong.

Also, it's not the fault of the HSE or Health and Safety professionals, it's the insurance industry and the great unwashed who really do believe that "putting a claim in for that" is free money.

Imagine the wait time to see the dentist if that really was part of the service

i suspect that in 99% of cases like this, there is no "top down" directive it is just individuals being *****

my twins had their nappies changed at nursery, and have thier bums wiped, if needed at pre-school - no problem

a lot is media mischief making coupled with lazy journalism tbh -- like the EEC not allowing curved banana's, whenever you look into it properly the story is always bollox

Last edited by hodgy0_2; 22 September 2009 at 04:35 PM. Reason: twins bums are wiped not wipped (if needed)
