Default Chill out music- any genre

Hi

I'm trying to get out of the habit of having the TV on in the background all the time and play music instead.

Thing is my usual stuff ie drum and bass, old rap/electro is hardly relaxing, and some of the lyrics in the latter are not suitable for the kids.

So I need some ideas for relaxing chill out music. Any genre ie classical, monastic chanting to ambient house.

Thanks

  • Air
  • Zero 7
  • Groove Armada
  • Nightmares on Wax
Albums I would recommend are...
  • ANY of the Cafe Del Mar releases - loads...
  • The Very Best Euphoric Dance Breakdown - Chillout (I and II)
  • Any of the Chilled Ibiza compilations

Try some jazz, or 50s or 60s stuff. You never know, you might learn a thing or two about music along the way.

For example, have you ever listened to the entire Beatles or Beach Boys back catalogue? If not, then you owe it to yourself.

Offshore by Chicane - one of the finest albums of the last 15 years and very chilled. You will recognise almost very track as they have been sampled by all and sundry.

Buddha Lounge chill out.

MoS chill out.

I like a bitnof chillout myself and the groups mentioned are certainly on my playlist. You could also look at verve remixed, which takes jazz tracks and remoxes them, for example there is a great remix of marlena shaw's california soul.

Oh and certainly have a listen to lemonjelly

Or check out pretty much all the 'Back to mine' or 'Another Late Night' series of albums.

Another Late Night by Groove Armada is fantastic.
