Puzzled by Blackberry users
When I wander around the city full of management consultants and IT folks I am puzzled by one thing.
Why is it that most the people I see with Blackberries have a mobile phone as well.
I have asked people but they don't seem to be able to answer me.
One of life's conundrums!

Blackberry for work, phone for personal I guess.
A lot of businesses supply Berry's to their staff, inc a good few on here.
Im suprised people could not explain that one lol.
I have 1 of each too, but im terribly popular and busy lol

OK - obvious answer - but not the right answer. I do know a lot of people who have both who say they prefer a separate mobile but it is nothing to do with work/private as they use both for work.
My key client would happily supply me a BB for work I do with them, they provide a mobile as well.

I had a blackberry for emails and a mobile for phone calls/texts from work up until about 3 years ago. I think the Blackberrys just weren't seen as really being up to doing the job of a decent phone.
As soon as the Blackberry Pearls turned up in late 2006 everyone went to just having a Blackberry and using it for calls and emails.

If you use a BB it would make more sense to you I guess.
There is mixing private and work calls, and then there is going out at the weekend and being able to switch work off.
Not losing your work BB when you are out on the ****, etc.
Numerous reasons really, but no different to the numbers of people inc myself who use 2 devices.

Heretical talk, Master. Smite down the unclean one with your wrothful vengeance. give him a lifetime of purgatorial penance with an old nokia. Yes Master, that would be wise and just.

Seriously, if you guys only ever listen to one thing I ever say - its to be VERY careful when mixing home/work on a work phone. Gets messy if things go bad.....
My experience is that large organisations seem to command higher discounts with tariffs with mobiles than the operators seem to be able to do with BlackBerrys. Also, there are companies that disable the phone capabilities of the devices, using them for data only.

Long ago you taught me the "ways of the berry" and i have not forgotten, my master. the young padawan will not be seduced to the dark side. it is hard though master, 65,000 applications is very tempting.

It has finally happened A mobile phone manufacturer has concentrated so much on the gadgets and gizmos, they forgot to build in functionality to make calls. Hence, the need for a second phone

For those that use the devices for work....when you are on holiday or at weekend you'd not be able to resist checking your email etc.
I've got a phone and a BB.
Personally I like to be able to leave work at home.

I have a bb as my only device, it was bought and paid for by me personally.
My wife however is given a bb by work, she has a separate mobile phone for personal use.
So the answer is what somebody said earlier, bb's are given by work to lots of people, but not for personal use.

it is possible that unlike Iphone owners, BB owners actually don't wish to flaunt their expensive phones in the face of everyone whilst out and about making them a target for theives or just generally being thought of as a tw@t.

lol @ resisting 65,000 apps 64,995 pointless ones....
Great for email and staying in touch.
Trout, got your answer yet, or still wondering and trying to make sense of it all?
Guess the answer is, one if for work, one if for personal. Flexability, its a great thing.

Not so many iPhones though. And when you do see them, they are always being treated like precious little delicate secrets lol

That said, I have to say that on my now regular bus journies, I have realised just HOW popular Blackberry's are now. Will always see a few being used just locally to my seat.

OK - the work personal thing is the most common answer here - not the one I typically get when I ask people who are using a BB and a mobile.
I will say that people who have both typically use the BB that looks like a pancake - the really big one that doesn't really sit in your hand!

When I ask colleagues/clients/associates they usually say that they like to have both as it is easier to use a separate mobile.
One of my clients has two BBs and two mobiles!! (mind you he works here and in the US). He is a nerdy IT guy and has them all on his belt - looks like a wayward carpenter!
