Make sure you sign this petition!
If they manage to get this one through it will be the thin end of a very slippery thick wedge
Basically, they are trying to change the law so that even if you are NOT guilty of an offence the police accuse you of, you will still have to pay for the legal costs in defending yourself. This of course effectively means that it will cost you more to defend yourself that it would be to just pay the penalty
Which, some might say, could lead to people being deliberately accused of an offence that they did not commit and not be able to mount a defence
Currently it is only proposed for motoring offences, surprise surprise, but it could of course be extended to other areas of law if they manage to get this through.

Absolutely disgraceful!
So, the government wants us to pay for costs they incur by enforcing laws that, in themselves, seem predominantly motivated by financial gain rather than public safety.
"Well, you could defend yourself against this speeding fine squire, but if you win, then the court costs will set you back more than £60. Just bend over and take it, eh!" Nice scam....except it's not: this is likely to cost them more than they will recoup via barristers claims from the CPS.
So, they fail at making laws to improve road safety
They fail at enforcing them
They want us to pay for their failings in a thinly disguised attempt to improve prosecution rates
AND They can't even pull off scamming us anymore!
Sooner this bunch of clueless half wits are out the better!
Signed!

Well, it may be ignored by the current government. However, if it is seen as a big enough issue by the opposition it could be revoked when they get into power. If it looks like people don't care, then it will most certainly get through, and stay put.

Signed.
Even though I don't trust the government to not use the names on the petition for underhand purposes.
You'd think it was a story you'd read in the Daily Mash rather than it actually being true.

'NOT GUILTY' MOTORISTS FACE COURT COSTS
According to the Ministry of Justice, the age old principle of 'the loser pays' has been costing the government too much money. As a result the new rules make it clear that in future drivers will have to foot the bill for clearing their name. According to The Taxpayers Alliance, that equates to 400,000 people, or one in four of those who challenge a ticket.

Can't lose can they? Not only are they hammering the motorist yet again which is one of their favourite occupations, but they will make it possible for the CPS to accuse us of anything regardless in case they win, and if they lose it wont cost them a thing!
What a bunch of arseholes they are!!!

Our 'justice' system is a laughing stock anyway - especially when it comes to motoring offences where you are presumed guilty & have to prove your innocence. Justice these days is only for those with the deepest pockets.
