Anyone got this?

Went home last night, no broadband (Also SKY) - orange light on router flickering.
Turn off/on again as that sorts most things

Nothing?

Check phone - got dial tone OK.

Wife tries to use phone to call her mother - always engaged which is strange.

I then check - phone not working, no calls in or out FFS.

Ring SKY (on mobile) gave up after being on hold for 15 mins.
Get dinner, then ring again
27 minutes (yes 27 ******* minutes) later a bloke(not in India thankfully, we must be gratefull of small mercies) answers the phone and does stuff, tells me to unplug stuff, does more stuff and says the line is fine and he doesn't know whats wrong and will need to escalate call.

Says someone will call contact you withing 72 hours
WTF do you mean 72 hours?

Their customer service is indeed ****

the customer service of all these firms is ****. be it BT, Vodafone, Sky... all as bad as each other which I'm sure is deliberate so they cant be called out for being the worst and they all cut costs accordingly.

urban. If you need to call again then try use a non 08 number as you will get pocket raped for the call.

I used to get a problem very similar to this. It was actually due to the local exchange being oversubscribed and unable to cope with the amount of work it was expected to do. The times I was lucky enough to get a dial tone or receive an incoming call, it was inaudible due to interference on the line. It also affected the internet connection so much that I ended up with faster upload times than download, which is the opposite of what everyone wants.
