Looking for some really good quality speakers. Advice please :D
Ok, so i have a dj set up, which then evolved into a studio, and is going to become a proper studio within a year. The room is a rectangle with a slanted ceiling at the far end where all of my equipment is. I have a speaker in each corner of the room that does the job for when im on the decks, and a bass bin on the floor to add to the sound, But due to the shape of the room and ceiling, the acoustcs of the room are not great, meaning that i cannot hear music that clearly when im on logic studio, or having a mix on my decks, it sometimes gets harder to hear in detail so i am looking for a pair of speakers that i can position towards me and act as studio monitors.
(please state if you do not understand that as im not great at wording things )
So i am looking for a set of very clear speakers that arent too large but have a clear enough sound. I've had a quick look and some people seem to rate alesis speakers quite highly in the price range i am looking (hopefully around £200, £300 at a push) does anybody know better?
Just to clarify, the 4 speakers i have now are powered by 2 hifis (never got round to getting a new set of amps etc) but my mixer has 3 outputs, one master, one booth, and one record. ideally i would like the booth to obvisouly be my studio monitors, and my master to be the 2 hifis (the bass bin i have is powered by my record output, but wouldnt mind leaving it out or having it linked up with the 2 hifis that power the master speakers) so is there a product i can get which would convert my one master output into 2 or 3 outputs?

I would keep it simple to be honest and use your booth for the monitor speakers and the master for your big *** speakers.
Me, I use my master for the 2 Gemini speakers which are my monitors. Before I bought these and my amp, I used a Sony Hifi. I couldn;t get a punchy enough beat from the 6-7" woofers, but as soon as I got my Gemini's and simply plugged in the amp, the 12" woofers and horns gave me a much purer sound. Obviously for producing you need as you say good quality smaller speakers, but try my set up and see if it helps you. Certainly helped my mixing by having the 12" woofer about waist to ear level
Oh good luck with the production thing, don;t think I'll get round to anything like that, like DJ'ing too much.

A pair of B&W DM 601 S3's (or the earlier ones) perhaps? Think they have been superseded by another model in the 600 range so might be able to get a deal. I think I paid around 200 for a pair of the original 601's many, many years ago. The DM bit in the name, I believe, stands for Digital Monitor.

Good quality speakers won't help just yet tbh.
Sort the room acoustics out first. "Detail" leads me to believe that your problem is with the high/mid frequencies......
Not a major issue as it's relatively easy to rectify with HF dampers etc (foam on the ceiling, and corners of the room wall etc....
If you've lost bass, then it's a bit harder - you've got phasing issues..... more money...
IF you decide that monitors are what you're after, there's a fair few to choose from.
Dynaudios are a favourite of mine - won't get new ones for £300 though! Only used.
Alesis are nice too - Monitor 1s or 1a (actives - have built in amps)
BUT it is a minefield. VERY difficult to decide without trying them in situ....
so you need to sort out your room first.
PM me for more details

With a bit of research you should be able to find a shop or business within 20 miles that specialises in acoustics and will have a variety of speakers for sale. Usually be staffed by people who know what they are talking about and are generally very helpful. You might even get a decent deal from them and you have a place to contact if things go wrong. I'd go in and have a chat. So go and get some decent free advice and take it from there. Remember that they are used to dealing with hard-up musicians

David, i guess that will probably be the best thing to do. I've looked at some websites but it only tells me figures, which mean nothing in reality.
Thanks for everyones help

A lot of high end studio monitors (ie for BBC) etc are made by a company called PMC ( as well as B and W, and Dynaudio as already mentioned). You will not get any of those three makes in your budget though I'm afraid.

There is only one speaker that studio's are going for now..
The Manger Bending wave transducer is awesome, better than any push/pull piston speaker design.
