Has anyone used any of these companies - are they rip off merchants, or do they give sensible money? My daughter wants to send some old jewellery to one of them, but I can help feeling they will offer stupid money or nail you for stupid fees to return the items if you don't accept the offer.

These companies are hardly going to be in this sort of game to do you a favour so its highly likely they will stiff you somewhere along the line.
I think its largely aimed at folk with poor financial sense flogging off their Lizzy Duke collection.

Years ago my wife had a dental practice and every year just before Christmas we took half a jar full of old gold fillings to this old Jewish boy who weighed it up and gave us a good cash rate. Of course he made a turn but not a rip off. Paid for the practice party. dl

Someone in my fat fighters group sent her genuine (original box and receipts sent too) Gucci watch off to Cash for Gold as she needed money for her holiday.....they offered her £5!

I wouldn't trust sending it in the post. These firms are thriving in peoples laziness. IF you get to any jewellers, they will offer you a fair price, and tell you what they pay by the gram. If these gold companies did offer the best prices, they would say what they actually pay per gram, to save you sending it off.
