I thought Great whites grew to between 15-20ft so why would a 20ft one be classed as a Mega-shark?? Just sounds like sensationalism to me

"That cannibal thing is what great whites do; they'll eat anything, including their own kind," Hugh Edwards, a local shark expert, told Australia's 7 News. "It would be sensible not to swim in that area for a little while."

In fact the largest Great white ever caught was 21ft and they are believed to achieve 25ft. So that makes this 20ft "Mega-Shark" at lot less...erm.....mega

I read somewhere that they can grow up to 30ft and 7000lbs but there unlikely to be caught

The 21ft shark that was caught weighed in at 7100lbs so I would guess that even a 25ft specimen would be getting close to 10000lbs. I firmly believe there are huge sharks out there living in deeper waters that would dwarf anything seen so far.

there was a programme on sky recently about a prehistoric mega shark, and from the fossils found they recreated its size and the things were mahoosive in comparrison to the mega-shark in question here.

made the great white look like a stickleback.

Yep, from fossilised jaw fragments they suggest it was 45ft to 50ft long, which is as big as the biggest Whale Sharks. That would be one hell of a frightening thing to see.

That's the one. Its teeth were up to 6 inches tall and its jaws 2 metres wide

search for biggest grizzly bear killed an see the size they grow to.
Off topic i know but scary.

One killed recently allegedly had the remains of missing hikers in it an they rekon that standing on its rear legs it could look in the top windows of your average 3 bedroom semi.
Lots of suggestions that its been exagerated.
The photo that i saw was amazing. If the hunter shot it for "sport" then he needs shot as well, but if its true that he was next on the menu then wow.............

It is amazing how utterly massive some of the animal kingdom can get. Consider the fact that the teeth that have been found of magalodon come from an average specimen (it's unlikely that the teeth happen to be from the biggest one ever) then it's entirely possible that they reached 60-70ft. Some scientists even think that they may have been as large as 100ft. Four times the length of the biggest great whites.
