Won't matter, in a few years you won't be able to afford to license your car, let alone put fuel in to it to drive.

Cruise control - is nearly as exciting stopping the guy in your boot doing 35 as you doing 35

Large scale, country-wide, defiance, French style. However, we are all salves to elite machine...mortgage, car load, credit cards etc etc...how uncomfortable do you want to get to send the right signal to the "authorities"?

Wish they spent as much time, effort and money on cancer research.
Ah but wait, that won't make them pots of money from Britains biggest criminal.

I've said this for a while now the performance car is dying, Clarkson was right. Fuel costs, the economy and the nanny state is waging a war that we cannot win due to the British 'moan but no action' laid back nature.

I said some time ago that within ten years we'll have massive taxation in the name of 'saving the planet' and average speed cameras will be fitted to most motorways and a roads, simply to extract ever more taxation out of the motorist in the name of road safety.

The performance car will die or at very least be a rare sight on the roads, yes there will be loads that will be able to afford one but i fear this trend of lower co2 for the sake of being green and the relentless war (quoted by Clarkson) will spell the death knell of the performance car.

RIP - its been fun.

I saw that episode recently, awesome, but sad ending. All true.

If you have the money, which Mr Al Gore will have with his "climate doom" books, his oil money and his carbon credit money too....

Bloody disgusting, but some of this camera technology is already out.It was interesting to read the part about the cameras will be able to know the speed if it's a car or truck.I happen to have been talking to a truck driver some months ago and he had actually got done by a Truvelo/Gatso,he was doing over 40 on a 50mph single carriageway and got done for it.Later he found out that this camera has the device that can tell the difference between car and truck, some kind of Height sensor..Anyhow it was on the A446 between Bassetts Pole going past the Belfry towards Minworth/Tamworth..This was about 4 months ago but not sure if it's bullsh1t,I have seen alot of trucks use that route..Anyhow it's just another **** up in this country, another couple yrs then i'll be able to run for the Hills.....

You see these flash mobs congregating at train stations, trafalgar square etc? How hard could it be to organise a flash 'everyone go to a different speed camera and cover/kill it' mob?

I think the rozzers may find it dificult to wait at every speed camera even if they got wind.

One of the above 'mobs' per month ought to kill the whole idea due to replacement costs within 3 months ....

But in now way do I condone the above

(PS Or a facebook group to make it even easier)

The most dangerous situation at the moment is with the uninsured, untaxed, and non MOT cars.

These speed cameras will not catch many of those unless they just happened to have been speeding past one.

We really need to go back to traffic and speed cops who were in a superior position in order to be able to catch the far worse offenders as described above. Their visible presence used to encourage better driving too.

This latest proposal if obviously a more determined attempt to get yet more cash out of the besieged motorist without any form of responsiblity towards catching those who are far worse offenders with regard to safety. Probably because they are the ones who never pay fines anyway!

What a load of useless and selfish plonkers these people are!

This is what I don't understand...if speeding is so lethal, why let people do it and then bollock them? Would it not be better to make the speed limit clearly known and the camera clearly visible so that folk won't speed through the 'Danger Area', cos cameras are all in dangerous locations aren't they?!

Or, would it not be better to improve road layouts, or is that asking too much?!

Given my local council's inability to do anything sensible, they'll be putting speed cameras on the new traffic calming measures they've just put in!

I'm not going to get into a debate about the questionable efficacy of speed cameras, but the point you make about traffic cops made me chuckle - I remember the days when the popular retort of anyone caught speeding by the police was 'shouldn't you be out catching real criminals'

Oh what short memories we all have

If speeding is so dangerous, why do insurance companies not hike the premiums of those with three speeding related points? Because it does not affect your risk one iota.

Nothing at all.

I still remember the vast amount of spineless wimps on this forum who were up in arms about fuel costs, and when questioned after the last "petrol strike" none of them had even bothered to turn up and support them

"ohh i was tooooo busy" (sitting on the internet bitching about it)
"umm i was at work (didn't they change the day of the protest to the weekend so more people could support it)

etc etc

People will generally just bitch about it and do nothing.

Agreed, i always said that my scooby was going to be my last performance car as i could see things going **** up anyway.

It is slightly amusing to me that i ended up swapping my blown up scooby remains for another performance car (although not as good.fast but its still a sports saloon)

I would have not went out and bought another "fast car" though. I wanted a diesel lol!

Yes thats true Martin, standard reply if they booked you of course.

I still stand by what I said about their performance though. They were less likely to do you by numbers though. If you had not been acting dangerously or stupidly they were quite likely to point out the error of your ways and let you off with a minor bollocking! Still made you think twice next time and was a positive method of improving relations with the public.
