What a shower of bastads.
Sean at 0870 3434565 refuses to give me a postal address or SIA number for me to check if a) they are a legitimate company b) £125 is a "reasonable" charge for removing a clamp.
Daughter got clamped at stevenage leisure centre. Parked up and went shopping at Primark (Leaving the leisure centre, which, to be fair is in contravention of the terms for parking as notified around the car park)
but £125!!!
Practically what the car is worth!!

If they are a private co in a private car park then cut the clamp off. They only have a case against the person that parked & they don't know who that is do they. I've bolt cutters if you need them ...
Alternatively just leave the car there for a while (assuming she can get around OK without it) & you'll probably see clamp removed in a few days anyways.
TX.
PS
How on earth did they know that she wasn't in the leisure centre?! Would have been worth £5 to go swimming for a while wouldn't it

"... Wheel-clampers used by private landowners must have a licence from the Security Industry Authority (SIA). It is a criminal offence for anyone without a licence to clamp your vehicle. It is also a criminal offence for someone to employ an unlicensed wheel-clamper, or for a landowner to allow a wheel-clamper who they know is unlicensed to operate on their property.
When you pay to have your vehicle released, the wheel-clamper must provide a receipt which includes the following information:
•
the place where the vehicle was clamped
•
their name and signature
•
their SIA licence number (a 15 digit number on the front of their licence)
•
the date.
Licensed wheel-clampers should also wear their SIA licence where you can see it at all times when they are working. You can check whether someone has a valid SIA licence by looking on a public register of licences on the SIA website at www.the-sia.org.uk, or from the SIA call centre on 08702 430 100. ..."
In other words, he can't ask for money if he doesn't give you the information you have asked for! I'd get in touch with Mr. Plod.

SIA Licences IIRC are usually held by doorman - so virtually any tom, dick or harry can set-up.
The Lesuire Park is a nightmare with clampers, they are constantly there clamping (always leave the van running whilst clamping and checking cars
)
Am also curious as to how they knew that someone from the car wasn't still in the lesuire park?

Write the details of the issue down, contact the SIA, you have their number, see if they are registered, if not call in on the police and the local council who run the leisure centre, they should be approved by the land owner as well.

I'm loving the idea of a battery powered angle grinder. Sadly the wife got a phone call from daughter in tears so she called the company and paid by card over the phone.
Scum! Worse than Scum!! Thieving sh1tbags!!!

Not a good result then, but I suppose preventing your daughter from getting stressed is the main thing. At least they didn't try to intimidate her into paying
... those types really do p*ss me off.

I'd say it's definitely worth some research on pepipoo, etc.
You might be able to get onto the bank / card issuer and tell them that the payment was made under duress. Perhaps it would help you get some additional details out of the clampers if their payment is on hold.
