![Question](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/icons/icon5.gif)
I had a scan yesterday (no I am not pregnant
) and chap said that I have a smallish kidney stone but didn't give me any more info.
After a little research I read that it may just stay where it is but could move and pass through the system or get stuck along the way.
I understand that some can be laser zapped and broken up or, in the worst case, removed under GA. If it moves and get stuck then a nurse has to use a medical "Henry" and go tunnelling, not pleasant.
So any experience anyone? Cheer me up please.

I feel for you, I really do.
Ive had kidney stones 5 times in about 8 years. They are only about 3mm diameter and when they move out of the kidney they can get stuck in your pipes. The pain is the worst pain you can think of...trebled. The first time I had it I thought I was dying. They reckon the pain is far worse than giving birth. If you do get one its important to get to A&E asap because it can be very dangerous and for a shot of morphine.

The last one I had was going to be zapped but at the last scan it had gone, must have passed through without pain.
Good point! I was advised to drink lots of water and avoid certain things coffee being one of them.
The stones in the kidney weren't a problem 'till they moved.

Had a kidney stone leave my system via natural means back in 2001. The pain was off the scale, to the point where I passed out before the paramedics arrived. I had half a bottle of entonox on the fifteen minute blue light run form home to the local A & E. I was convinced something major had let go inside me.
They took xrays which showed nothing, and I had an IVP test about a week later which came back clear. I was called to see a consultant who told me there was very little I could do to avoid a recurrence. He advised to drink water to avoid becoming dehydrated or allowing my urine to become concentrated. He said some people made dramatic changes to their lifestyles cutting out all manner of things to no avail. Some people were regularly troubled by kidney stones and for others it was a one off. I have made no significant changes and have had no trouble since. Allegedly drinking cranberry juice is supposed to be a good preventative.
I reckon while it is giving you no grief they will leave it where it is. If it starts to move or cause you pain, they will zap it to break it up to make its passing less painful or consider surgery.

I've passed 2 of these so prepare for serious pain, like pissing, ****ting, having a **** and getting kicked in the *****, all at the same time.
And forget about the Annadin Extra's, morphine administered by the quack is the only relief .

I had 4 within 3 years some years ago. First one caused me to collapse, the others haven't been quite so bad. The last one had me admitted to a hospital in Finland where I saw an urologist. She advised lots of fluids same as the others but also to avoid rhubarb...It's not necessarily your diet or drinking habits that cause them, in my case I had an excess of calcium in my body. Keep hydrated and hopefully it will break up of its own accord and you'll pass it without problem. Bob

2 so far - one moved after being zapped with lithotripsy ( sound waves - do have the local anaesthetic - they pretend it's optional
) when I was half way home in the car. Unbelievable pain - just managed to get the car stopped and rolled out on to my knees in the middle of the old kent road, where I couldn't even speak... After what seemed like hours but was probably a couple of minutes it must have passed through as I was able to shakily get back to my feet and drive on. Two ribena wees later all was fine ![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
Second time was the old tunnelling approach, which wasn't the best either...
Was just told last week that I have another 3 mm one which I can't feel yet. Oh good.

Friend of is very susceptible to them and has had a bad time with them. He has to get them zapped when they appear.
Small ones sometimes pass through so keep your fingers crossed.
