Default Cheque with name typo

I have just received a cheque through the post.

Problem is they have spelled my name Allan instead of Allen.

Will I still be able to use it ?

If its a small amount and if its your first name, it shouldn't be an issue. Doubt the cashier will notice.

Thanks for the replies

It is my first name & it is a relatively small amount.

I just didn't fancy the 10 mile drive to my nearest branch & paying parking for it to be a wasted journey.

Yes - It will be fine

I've received cheques before addressed as Sean instead of Shaun - OK same name but totally different spelling

Shouldn't be a problem with that.

Accounts here last month managed to send a cheque for one company to another with a completely different name (that started with the same letter); it went right through and was paid by the bank to the other company without anyone noticing.

Yeah should be fine. I regularly get cheques spelt wrong. I've even scribbled out the name to pay it into my other account before!

More interested in trying to get me to change my account & take one of their credit cards.

They DO check but most will ignore it if it is an 'obvious' mistake such as yours.
