Building a room underground

Came across this company in a magazine.
www.undergroundliving.co.uk
My understanding was that digging out basements under your home was mega bucks, and only really worth it if you lived in a densley populated but very expensive area ie Knightsbridge etc.
This company claims on the website that it can cost even less than a traditional extension! You also get light through the skylights, and decreased heating bills, and the entrance maybe able to come from your existing house.
Anybody know anything about this?
Thanks

I think that's a great idea. However, I was concerned that all the pictures in the gallery were computer generated!
Has anyone actually had one of these constructed yet?

I know a couple of people who have done this to install cellars. Not cheap. But they wanted cellars and weren't concerned about whether it would add value to their properties (although it almost certainly has).
If you get a decent firm to do the work, no reason why it shouldn't be an excellent addition to the house. But like lots of major building jobs, it's a lot of inconvenience for a few months.

This co were featured in the Sunday Times property section a few weeks ago. The rooms were in gardens and not under your existing house, a very different proposition in not requiring underpining, easy access etc.
They interestingly claimed no planning permission was needed nor did building regs apply.

That's my concern, all the pics are cgi, not real.
Dunk, I know its under the garden, hence why it might be affordable, not the big money required for under house excavation.
Telboy, I know a few who have had the underground wine cellars, but as you mentioned this is quite different.
I'd love to speak to someone who has had it done, or see real pics. If it is the same sort of cost as a traditional extension, it could be a wonderful way to give yourself loads more living space.

Dunno if it's been mentioned before ( haven't read all the replys) but Snazy did have a thread here a while ago about neighbours doing just that with disastrous results, I'd give it a miss to be honest!

I've read a little of Snazy's thread (can't open all the pics at the moment) but it seems like they were digging UNDERNEATH the house, that destabilised that house and Snazy's.
The method I've linked to involves digging in the garden, and perhaps a little distance from the house. This should be much safer shouldn't it?
