Great actor and a war hero 
he was in the group that took Pegasus bridge on D-Day (he also starred in the Longest Day where he played Major John Howard who was also at Pegasus bridge).

Yes there is a dog's grave in front of the old 617 Sqn hangar at Scampton.
Richard Todd was certainly quite a man, what with his heroic wartime record as well as his fine acting.
