Never nice to see some of your "own" loosing their jobs.

Heard about the probability at Teeseide not so long back at my November Corus team brief. The Scunthorpe site in particular isn't doing great either but there is a huge incentive on saving money currently going round. The staff population are genuinely taking part to my knowledge as we're obviously concerned about our long term futures too. Being a 1st year trainee (but Corus employee all the same), the last thing I want is to lose the opportunity I've worked so hard at.

The thinking is (and a chunk of hope is in the mixture) that the recession will hit Corus as a "v" shape with small rumbles and not a "w" shape. Luckily at Scunthorpe we have certain facilities that no other Tata site in the world currently has (and something which would cost the parent company a fortune to replicate) otherwise the 4,000 odd staff here may have already suffered the same fate.

I feel really sorry for these guys,I'm losing my job at Corus in March when they relocate to a different Corus site in Shotton.Tata who are Corus parent company sent us letter though the post on Thursday telling us how well Tata Europe has done .There are some guys who are still quite angry/bitter about the way the whole thing has been handle by Corus(long story),but i see it has a chance to get retrained and hopefully learn a new trade.

Redcar was my childhood beach holiday ... we were rather destitute

Went back there about 8 years ago, maybe it was always a sh1thole and I never saw it as a kid - or maybe it has been run down since the 1950's ....... but it was dismal in the November north east wind and rain.

It's in stark contrast to the £MILLIONS about to be given to the Bankers who cannot do their jobs properly ... and here we have hard working men who have lost their jobs

Disgusting twisted world we live in ....... Teesside deserves better.

This was the Redcar I knew ..... used to jump in and out of the Fishing Boats lined up along the prom.

My dad used bought crabs from the fishermen when they beached - take them home to boil them ...... those were really hard days, but we ate quite well

I got made redundent from Corus back in March. I managed to go straight into another job and just feel so so lucky given the job situation.

Was it the Colby plant Spencer?

On another note, reading the Scunthorpe Corus' site newspaper (yes they are still printing this off in FULL colour as a free paper in these hard times ), they claim the Indian side of Tata steel is set for 12% growth next year alone - far higher then even China and its new powerstations etc.

Hey I heard the weathers hot in India so maybe I'll bugger off there when I'm qualified (make the best out of a scary situation huh?)
