How the blazes does Alan Bennett manage to garner such support
I can just about put up with Hockney
Geoffrey Boycott sent me to sleep when i was 25
Has the place ever produced an exciting prospect ?

Jamie,
I'm not overly bright, but I can clearly see that it is the well known yorkshireman, playwright, actor, author and humorist, Alan Bennett that the OP is referring to. I believe that he may have been in the news or on television within the last couple of days (I have a vague recollection of seeing some news article to do with him on the BBC website within the last 24 hours, but I cannot find it at present) hence the topical thread.
Looking at iPlayer, it would appear there are quite a few Alan Bennett items listed as being on BBC 2 yesterday and today, so it looks as though there is some marathon of Mr Bennett's work taking place, and thus as stated above, it could account for the topical nature of this thread.
I'm sure if you yourself had googled Alan Bennett then you would have correlated his name and the reference to him being from yorkshire, and put two and two together and realized who the OP was talking about, and thus your post was not really necessary, and it seems others have picked up on this.

Ignore Jamie folks he's trying to be another Telboy look he's even started not using a capital I when refering to one's self. I think the way he's trying to emulate him his amusingly tragic or is that tragically amusing?
That's if Jamie and Tel are not one and the same which if you think about it is a dictinct possibility

I'm from Yorkshire but I confirm that Alan Bennett is, in fact, a c*nt. Some of his earlier plays may have been fairly entertaining, but now he's just a paedophile apologist and frankly needs a good slap.

Glad you clarified, Bob.. thought for a second you had missed a dash or two, but on second glance , it seems fine.

Well, I've met them both, Daz; and there's about ten stone and two feet of height between them.
You shouldn't judge Tel too harshly, by the way. Granted, he can be an absolute pain in the hoop about spelling - he makes me feel positively liberal sometimes. But like him, I reckon if someone can't construct a coherent sentence, then neither can they formulate a reasoned opinion about anything.
I might let the odd misplaced apostrophe pass without comment, though.

Sometimes on here, people do have reasonable things to say as a whole, they just might not be great at spelling. There is a huge difference between not being able to construct a coherent sentence, and simply making mistakes/ not being good at spelling.
I'd like to think I'm reasonable (most of the time), but I make mistakes, and would never claim to be great at spelling or grammar for that matter.
That said, although that side of him really irritates people (and me), I couldn't slate him as a person. I don't know him, so would never go down the route of personal attacks.
Other than, he should take his head out his **** at times, and tone it down.

As for Jamie as a person,... nah I need not say it

Totally the wrong turn of phrase in relation to my gripe with 3rd grade spelling.
But hey, it was late when you posted.
Yet again (this is what the third, fourth time you've "addressed" this on here?) you spectacularly miss my frustration. I wouldn't correct the spelling of somebody's name in a month of Sundays, as Markus and others have said it was pretty obvious who was being referred to. Just ten simple words, give or take, send me off the deep end.
Still, as the nice Mr NS04 has said, my heinous posts can now be RTM'd and there won't be any need for any more holier than thou sermons. So that's good.
