Default Any help with my Revo Net Top? My son's Christmas pressie.

Basically I have bought an Acer net top computer. It is running some basic Lynux software, which is all an (almost) 4 year old needs.

It is a pretty basic system, and all I need to do to get it up and running is to connect it to my wireless connection. BUT, the 'revo' can't seem to pick up a signal off the router!!

I have tried the trouble shooting websites, but it's supposed to be so simple to connect it up, there isn't really any info out there.

Has anyone got any ideas what the problem might be? I was thinking maybe it's just a signal problem.... but I have an acer Eee Pc (net book) and I can get a signal everywhere in the house for it, and even in the shed!

I don't really want my son to have a computer that he can't get online with!

Any help much appreciated!

It doesn't have/need a card it has an internal wireless card.
It is picking up the neighbors wireless connections, but not mine.

I can pick up their connections too on here (my net book) but my signal strength is marginally stronger than the others. I am not sure what the problem is.

My router is an 'older' one, but its a damn good router, so I am not sure that is the issue.

Yes, it has several computers already connected to my wireless network. So I can't see where the problem is really!!

I have done a full re boot on the router and will check it again in the am. I have packed it all away now. Can't spoil the surpruse for my little man!

It has a quick start set up function, so it should be easy peasy. Arrrhh, why does it have to play me up?!

Thanks, I suppose thats an idea. My mate just bought one, and he did say that he had a few issues with the connection at first, so I suppose as a process of elimination that is one thing out of the window.

Cheers for the help. I am off the bed now. Taking the kids to see Santa tomorrow, so better get some beauty sleep in!!!

perhaps your wireless router is set to a wireless mode that the Revo doesn't support i.e. 802.11 N instead of 802.11b/g

Perhaps you have your SSID hidden on the router, some computers don't like it when the SSID is hidden and you will never be able to find/connect to them, anybody else with a broadcasting SSID, your neighbour for example, will be picked up by new toy no dramas

I did try it with SSID on/off but with no joy! My old Linksys does not support 802.11 N I believe. Thanks for the input! The Mrs has posted this in here, I also posted in computer section. Will try again with it when the kids are in bed later!
