Default Alchohol brand name substitutes.

Most of us have tried them but the two best ones i can think of is Southern Belle/Southern Comfort from Aldi for about £8 a bottle. I cant tell the difference and the alcohol % or volume is identical as the more expensive twin.

The other one is also from Aldi, its Specially Selected Irish Cream Liqueur/Baileys at 17%(same as Baileys strength) and only £4.99.

I cant see the point of paying sometimes more than double just for the brand name

I could understand if there was a real difference in the taste but unless i had each one in front of me i would not know the difference.

Anymore? Cheers

It seems that half the price is for the brand name. That 3 examples now all with the same price hike

If you drink Brandy any which one cheap version is exactly the same as an expensive version when mixing it.

Unless your going to heat the glass and swill it abour first.

When i worked in a 5 star hotel as a barmen a top footballer came in and was ordering £90 a shot brandy with coke.

I was giving him 3 bells and coke and he didnt know difference... bell end

I drink alot off brandy and redbull when im out uuuuummmmmmmmmmmm

Is it based on a well known brand name and what is the saving?

A few years ago copies were not very good but now its hard or impossible to tell the difference

I dont like Red Bull and Vodka, too sweet but i will give it a go, specially as its nearly xmas

I keep seeing the bottles of mulled wine(not drank any) and it reminds me of bottles of Sangria, it needs to be the real thing, maybe i am wrong. Is it obligitary to have a mince pie in the othert hand?

Some of the alcoholic drink you get in Lidl's often looks a bit different or unusual, but most of it is very nice and also excellent value.

Stella is minging crap to begin with, reassuringly expensive! More like reassuringly overpriced chemical bollock wash

You cam tell the difference in cheap vodka to premium brands, I rate Grey Goose head and shoulders above Smirnoff unless it's Smirnoff Penka

Sometimes its ok but I have two bottle of Brandy, one is Remy Martin VSOP and the other Martell VS at about half the price, there is a hell of a difference in taste, the Martell is ok and the Remy Martin quite nice, if mixing it then it doesnt matter.

That about the footballer is classic, £90 a shot, care to mention who it was saying that the drink was immaterial, he wasnt a Brandy expert, just a flash bell end making a point to anyone around that he could afford it.

Smirnoff red is crap though, Grey Goose, Belvedere and Russian Standard are good vodkas. Super market own brand vodka and gin are generally undrinkable and taste like paint stripper.

Even mixing you can tell the difference between good and bad quality spirits. To mix a decent cognac with coke is a tragedy though.

Just get really into a nice drink like Ardbeg or something of similar caliber. Or if you easily pleased like me, some Jack Daniels.

Then when it's your birthday/Christmas just drop a few hints about said drink running low.

That way your very likely to get some off someone and it normally keeps the stock replenished. It also stops you from getting that awful jumper, novelty socks or another wash bag from your sister/aunty!

When it comes to beer, I can get 4 cans of breaker from the local shop for £2.99. Keeps me happy
