HI peeps,

Ever since I've got my Scoob I've had my old car sitting around, a ford Sierra. Its in really good nick, and its one of the nice models 2.0 glxi etc.. Any way, I've been trying to sell it for the last couple of MONTHS , and no-one wants it. I'm now onloy asking 500quid.

Anyway, the problem is now that the insurance runs out next week, and the tax next month. I can't afford to sort all that out, so I need to shift it.

Has anyone got any ideas about getting a few quid for it?

cheers.

Someone will buy it at the right price, it might be worth advertising it and asking for offers instead of specifying a price?

I know this can sometimes can cause probs with unwanted calls, but might be worth a try?

Advertising it in the local paper is your best bet..........unless you've done that already.

Its been in all the local Free Ad's papers. Good idea about the "open to offer" call. Thanks.

Don't really want to put it in the For Sale Forum, as its a bit of a lame car compared to all the others. Oh what the hell, can't hurt

Question

What about advertising it in a kit car magazine / forum as a donor car?

They use Sierras I think for some of the kit cars....

Nobody is really interested in them anymore, not a bad car in its day but they are a bit ancient and thirsty, I mean look at they way years ago people would keep old sheds going for years by fettling them at the weekends, cars since the mid 80's/early 90's are a LOT better than the seventies stuff, Consequently there are a lot of fairly intact ten year old cars about, trouble is for 99 quid down and 149 a month you can have a brand new Punto or something. Thinking about it, the make do and mend (war) mentallity seems to be dissapearing, perhaps this is because stuff is cheaper to produce these days and also that most of those who lived through the second world war as adults are now no longer with us ?

Apart from my T5 I have a mint Pug 309 1.3 that I use to leave in Manchester whilst at work, I paid 130 for it as salvage because the fron number plate and grille were broken !

I have run it 12 months without any trouble apart from a split hose. For a years motoring including fuel for 5000 miles, I reckon its cost less than a grand.

I think fashion has a lot to do with it, nowadays image seems to count more and more, a lot of people would not be seen dead in a 309 or old Sierra, their ego's are just to fragile to cope with it !

Anyway, thesis over, hope you sell the Sierra. After fifteen years of selling cars (not for a living) on a regular basis I have never failed to sell a car, there is always someone out there for it.

I even managed to sell a V8 (12 mpg) Discovery last year !

If you look on yahoo auctions http://list.auctions.shopping.yahoo.com/uk
You will find that it is unfortunatly only worth about £100 if your lucky, might be worth putting it on there on a 7 day auction and just letting it go for whatever it fetches(no reserve though), at least you wont have to tax it again

If you just want rid stick it in the local auction. Preferably on a day when there's lots of public, you tend to find that general public often end up bidding on things the trade won't touch. Don't expect lots of money, but it should sell and you won't have to pay to get rid, which you will with a scrappy...

Thumbs up

...just remembered

One of our locals has a saturday auction, which is good for shifting that kind of car Full of general public, seems not much sells in autotrader/loot etc.

For details of local auctions try these -
