Polls point to a Hung Parliment
Polls in the Sunday Papers point to a hung Parliment, quite frankly, I'm staggered that Labour isn't dead and buried!?
Clearly a hung parliment would result in another Election in the Autumn - by which time the economy will be pretty much fully restored in confidence .... the winner of that second election will be the party whom the public give credit for the turnaround IMO.
Could be a very interesting year!

Not much more than a month ago, the Tories were saying that they would tackle the deficit immediately and with huge cuts ...... fair enough, everyone knew what they would do.
Labour said that to cut too soon would risk the recovery, fair enough, everyone knew that Labour would gently cut as the economy became stronger.
Now, a Conservative government would not make "swingeing cuts" to public spending during its first year, party leader David Cameron has told the BBC ...... so, Mr Cameron, what ARE you going to do!?
Waft in the breeze of public opinion it seems!!

Lets allow the natural cycle of political parties taking power continue shall we? I'd rather Cameron was given a chance to turn things around, rather than allow Brown to put the finishing touches on scuttling this country. Let him go up North and become Scotlands First minister, after all its everything he really cares about.

Why would we want someone charismatic?
We don't vote for Leaders - that's for the Parties to do - we vote for the Party!!
And, in answer to your question - Mandelson is the stand out Politician and Charismatic person within the Houses of Parliament at the current time!

The way that the constituencies are set up means that the Tories need a large national vote swing to beat Labour - hence the potential for a hung parliament.
Remember, John Major got more votes (circa 14 million) in 1992 than TB did in 1997 (12 million?), but JM had a majority of 25 and TB had 120 odd.
It's to do with the way that the Tory's supporters are concentrated - they win far more seats by large margins than Labour, but with a first past the post system the party with their supporters more spread out (i.e. fewer votes overall, but lots of small majorities) tend to do better.
If you look at the electoral map in the 40s / 50s the reverese was true - Labour had very strong votes in certain areas and Tory supporters were more spread out.
Even losing the popular vote in England in 2005 (by about 60,00 I seem to remember) still meant TB had a majority of 66.

Well, after all this time you could have fooled me!
It is of course too early to say how it will go, the polls have narrowed, the Conservatives had made a gross error by breaking their promise on the Lisbon referendum and there has not been much in the way of concrete policies as yet. They may prefer to be a bit coy with their policies until nearer the election since NL have made a habit of stealing their good ones for their own in the past
I certainly hope we don't have a hung parliament, that won't do any good-we need some positive strong government on behalf of the people and the country for a change. Another NL government would spell the final disaster for the country!
Time will tell but the Conservatives have not got a "shoo-in" by any means in my opinion.
