Default Random kitchen question...

My builders put this concocted space above my fridge - what the hell do I put in there?

it's about 90cm by 20+cm and nearly a metre deep

Ideas please?

Just had a better idea, get a kitchen fitter to build a nice fitted wine rack.

Cook books?
Fake Door?

Personally I'd want that faced off as that area is only ever going to collect dust...

Probably not, but you'll only be putting red wine up there anyway so if there is a wee bit of heat then all the better

You could have just said

"Look how big my fridge is!"

Sensible answer - a good stereo. I have to have tunes in the kitchen.

A nice x shaped wine storage would be ideal, will look nice too. Shouldnt be too much heat from the fridge, wont hurt reds but keep whites there too and select two or three to keep in that lovely big fridge.

Excess beer stock (before it goes into teh fridge ).

As above though, its Ideal for red wine (which should be served at room temp), if you can stand the stuff (I can't).

Oh, and have a visual check of the rear of that open space - there might be a gap at the back for the fridge (it should have an open gap or have a false rear to give the fridge air space for convection - check the installation instructions of the fridge for ventilation clearances to be sure, don't want that nice new fridge to overheat and die ).

Ahh Sarah (oh, lets just knock out this structural wall) Beanie.

The lovely women who forgets that many brick walls also support the joists of the roof/floor above.

There's a false wall there that the fridge goes into - it's a metre deep and the worktop at the side is only 600mm

as for the coco pops, I just needed somewhere to put them - the builders kept turning off the damn thing, so i haven't been getting fridge/freezer food.

I see what you mean about the wasted space at the top...

possibly a bit late now lol. This is the other view...

Looks like a Howden's kitchen to me (tenby?) anywway, you would normally fit a bridging cabinet in the space above an american style fridge freezer, it would have a lift up hinge type door and is approx 300mm deep so you dont lose stuff at the back of it

You have the same tiles as me I would put a little tv on a swivel bracket in one half and a flat panel CD player next to it.
Or the wine rack is a good idea, Would be perfect for reds (not so good for whites)

In our wasted kitchen space we have the iron and loads of rolls of bounty, but its not as pleasing to the eye as it could be.

well spotted pandyman, 'tis Howdens top to bottom - seems quite well made.

There will be a bigger tv ( )on the other side of the room, so I'm not too bothered about a little one placed there.

Wine rack would be a great idea if you drink the stuff.

Other than that I would get Howdens to fit you a door on there, I couldn't have a space like that just crying out for clutter.

Not sure it's the ideal place for a fish tank as the temp up there would fluctuate too much with heating tripping in and out, as well as the heat from the fridge and added heat from cooking. The poor things might end up frazzled.

To be a bit pedantic, red wine isn't actually supposed to be served at room temp but 14-18 degrees

I'm confused as to why there is two support panels either side of the oven
