Default White number plates at the rear?

Are we going to do this in the UK? I see the French have started, and I'm told it's an EC thing, so will we go the same way?

don't think they'll be able too as i've heard that white number plates don't pick up on speed cameras.

As most people refer to their cars as "Female"

Number plates should be Pink at the front. Once a month, for 1 week, you're allowed red plates. And Brown plates at the rear.

I think our white and yellow plates contribute to road safety.

Basically a tit with an illegal plate.

Black and white(or silver) plates are only for vehicles manufactured before 1973

I don't know what it is with the UK, but its the only country I know of and visted where people drive round on illegal number plates (be it spacing, font or colour) and think its OK

Quite often you hear of people (including my dad) getting wound up because police have pulled them for illegal plates, well, what did they expect? They are illegal!

I've seen loads of dodgy plates (italics etc) in Spain, but the police seem to have better things to do

Agreed -- but it amazes me that the DVLA collude with this sort of behaviour by promoting “cherished” plates

Surely having a yellow plate on the rear is the only way you can tell which way a porsche 911 is facing?

I recently saw a car on the M25 with a battered old carrier bag artfully arranged so it was covering a significant part of the front numberplate but looked as if it could have been picked up by accident. Would prevent you getting picked up by front facing speed cameras and have sufficient "plausible deniability" to prevent the police from prosecuting you if they stopped you for it.

Thanks for the tip.

They were originally yellow to stop you displaying white (reflected) light to the rear, but seeing as we seem to abide by everything that Yerp tells us, we will soon be implementing candy-floss plates with with liquorice lettering (plus rigid enforcement by the authorities)

It makes me wonder, since I can't think of one other European country whose plates are different colours at the front and rear. It USED to be us and France, now just us.

talking of number plates, my mate told me of a story a while back where a "contact" of his rocked up in a BMW M3 with [MYM3] number plates. when looking over the car, my mate said "i bet that plate cost you a few quid", the bloke said yeah £20.00 for the pair.

Turns out he just went down a motor factors and got them made up and stuck them on his car.
Apparently he was driving about with them on for ages and never got a tug !!!

I do know that white on black plates do not show up on annalogue cameras, but I don't know how they react to digital cameras.

My sources tell me it is the same, for some reason cameras can't read them, but I have no evidence to support this.
