done my knee in !!!!!!!!
what a crap couple of days. yesterday i was washing the scoob and as i bent down to wipe the bottom of the doors i heard and felt my left knee ''crack''. from that moment i couldnt put any weight on it. mega pain. i managed to stumble around for a few minutes and get inside the house where i sat for a lil while. that was at about half 4 in the afternoon. at half 8, my parents took me to a&e because it still hurt like mad. after waiting there for nearly two hours, i was advised to take ibuprofen and if it still hurt in a couple days to go to my gp.
so i go to work this morning after having a restless night, and i only manage to do half a day. i came home and after pulling and bending my knee joint to see if anything happens, im still sitting here in pain. my doctors cant see me until 8.30 monday morning. . luckily im now off for a long weekend,(so i dont loose any money), but i can see it being wasted sitting on my bum in pain.
it isnt dislocated but it does feel like something in there needs to just pop back into place. ive tryed all angles lol. and now the pain is pissing me off big time.
aaaaahhhhhh its just a constant throbing !!!!!

Oh dear, sorry to hear this. Don't suppose you have health insurance do you? Will need an MRI scan which could take months. I will search for Dave's thread about his ACL - I don't want to put a downer on you but he's just been given the OK to ski again after 11 months....

how about the hot and cold compress routine for the cold some frozen peas in a pillow case to stop freeze burn etc. 20 mins on/of , might help.

Ive played football for many years, and id say read up on ACL just as Clarebabes pointed out. Both muy knees have buckled in the past, one was in a tackle at full force (that hurt) and the other was simular but not hard tackling, this again hurts initially but then its like tooth ache. you will be able to put weight on it for a while and you will certainly struggle to climb stairs etc. If it is ACL it will feel like its getting better on its own, however usally you need an ACL recontruction where they pull the ligament back and pin together (usually with bone), it can be done under Local or General anesthetic.
Anyway the best person to tell you what you have done in my opinion is a Physio foremost, then the Hospital who speciallise in that particular field. GP's need to know so much general health that they dont usally have a speciality.
PS my First knee op needed Cartlidges claening up too, 6mths to get in on NHS, but recovery with physio was great - back playing football after 2 months. As for the second knee pop (my other leg) Im still on the waiting list... I no longer play football - Work comes first lol. My knee pops out loads at the moment until it fixed up. I can be doing nothing special when it goes.

Most likely a small cartilage tear which can be cleaned up with an arthroscopy ( had 12 of those and 2 full open knee surgeries). If arthroscopy, it means you'll be up and weight bearing a few hours after the op, with a few weeks of a progressively less tender and stiff knee after that.
ACL would not be good but less likely IMHO
Ice and compression thing is "RICE" - Rest, Ice (wrap a bag of frozen peas in a thin tea towel and stick on the sore bit for 10 mins or so , then let it warm back up, then repeat as much as you can), Compression - use a neoprene knee bandage to compress and support the knee - also helps with warming it up after the ice bit, and Elevation. Raise the leg up onto a desk or sofa or whatever
Good luck tomorrow

Ice pack, iboprufen, compression and elevation. Simpley put, use a tubigrip and put your feet up, take brufen (up to 4 times a day, docs says only 3 normally) and place an ice pack on it every 4-5 hours.
I went from twisted and swolen knee (repercussion of a cruciate injury) after a football game to running a competative 10km race in 3 weeks

Dave completely tore his ACL and damaged his meniscus which actually was the more painful I think for him. You can do without the ACL being reconstructed as long as you don't play sport ever again or want to do anything remotely fun which involves twisting your knee, e.g. skiing.
Treatment for him was a ice-cuff which was fed by a bucket with iced water in, he did this about every hour for the first few weeks to get the swelling down, both pre- and post-operative. He took Neproxen which gave him a bit of a dodgy tummy, but it is an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen.
Hope the fact you can feel something in your knee isn't your ligament flapping around in the joint Good luck tomorrow!

she was absolutely adament on one thing tho. if it still hurts when i go back to work after these few days holiday, I AM NOT TO DRIVE A PUBLIC SERVICE VEHICLE . PERIOD !!!
so thats going to be fun telling work im not coming back. not looking forward to that. but c'est la vie

So no XRay, MRI scan or referral to the hospital then? Great, could be anything! Dave heard a pop and couldn't put weight on his, and look at what that turned out to be! Did she at least give you some higher strength painkillers to take?
So glad of the private healthcare now... not that that helps you.
Hope you feel better soon.

Can you straighten your leg?
Is it swollen?
Physio may well be all you need if it's torn, but a specialist should be able to diagnose a ruptured ligament by pulling your leg about.
Good luck!
