Default Courtesy car charges

Just booked the wifes car in for its first m.o.t. at the local main dealer and was informed it will cost £54 for the test and another £10 for a courtesy car.
I've not m.o.t'd a car for a while so assume that's the going rate at a main dealer but i've never been charged for the use of a courtesy car before, is this now the norm?
And no doubt when given said car it will be running on vapours!
Only reason its going to main stealers is because they will do any necessary warranty work while its there.

Nik.

We'll £10 is hardly going to break the bank.
I presume you're also transferring the courtesy car onto to your insurance?

Id guess that the charge will only be for insurance? Thats squarely a fully comprehensive day-rate.

Why are people upset at no fuel in loan cars? If the dealer had left half a tank in it and you used it all would you replace it? Most people think sod the dealer they make enough money out of me.

They run on fumes simply because the last customer to use it left it like that, you imagine from a business perspective what the cost of fueling cars is to anybody lending them out or running demo's.

I would assume the £10 covers the insurance policy on the car which again is'nt cheap. Most garages don't charge if you arrange a full comprehensive cover for the day.

Nomination for most pointless thread ever!
Seriously though, £10? And you are questioning it?

I've known a few dealers charge £10 or so for a loan car.

I now get them to collect my car from work and return it once done.

It get my goat when you take your car in for warranty work. ie the car is faulty, and you need it repaired. This should not cost me a penny, as it's the manufacturers fault.

Yet I have to pay £10 for the privilage of getting to work and back while they put my car right.

You're lucky the they're even offering to cover the car.

More and more garages are insisting you insure the car yourself under your own policy.

If they told me to do that i'd tell them to do one and take it to another garage

Local Dealers started charging me for a courtesy car a few years back (£5 on top of the price of a service), and the last dealer (Changed to one nearer to where I work) I used didn't charge, but both still allowed me to go onto their insurance policies but with a £500 excess if I did have an accident. Have used another garage on my other car and they don't charge for a courtesy car but expect you to cover it with your own insurance as long as it's fully comprehensive.
