It looks like Argentina, after leaving things be since the Falklands war, quite fancy having the oil that UK companies are looking for down there.

Send troops out to Afghan to fight a(dare I say) pointless war, but when it comes to protecting the nation's interests it could be a different story.

You're probably not far wrong. It's highly unlikely there will be any kind of military action, but unfortunately I doubt Gordon Brown has the ***** to be firm about this. It's probably going to be a case of coming to some sort of compromise involving us handing out cash to Argentina.

Brown won't have the ***** to make a stand. One of his Quangos (SP) will probably advise him it'll be cheaper to just let the Argies have it, and buy the oil back off them.
Argies then sell it at a stupid high price to the UK, and petrol price sore even more.

Do you remember back in '82, Maggies appeal was waning, well the Tories were as a party, and the Falklands conflict, and all the talk of 'Our Boys' pushed her back into a position of dominance.

This is what the Falkland sconflict was all about in the first place.
We've already had some goon from the foreign office giving it "we have good relations blah blah" even though they've already stopped British ships.
Needs a 'bog off or we'll be back' message and pronto.

Show em whos boss. Not with a show of strength in a political sense, with a flypast of Buenos Aires like we had planned in 82. Not with Vulcans this time, obviously.

Anyone know how the Argentine banks and economy are doing, last time the war was about getting the people thinking about national pride and of the spiraling inflation and thier countries debts.
Ironically we are the ones with massive debts at the moment and our military is also heavily commited in the middle east. I do doubt we could sustain two fronts for long as we cannot supply the forces with the right kit as it is. We do hawever have a substancial force now based on the Falklands which should help deter the Argies
250 or so british soldiers died back in '82 defending and retaking the Falklands.
I do hope the bunch of spineless self serving w@nkers currently in power do not hand it over or get told to by the EU thus negating thier responsibility and allowing lots of hand wringing by Brown et al.
Some of us still remember the Belgrano - as The Sun put it so elequently - GOTCHA!
Hands off Argies or you may end up with yet another bloody nose

I certainly see trouble ahead over this. The mineral wealth was known about during the first conflict and I reckon that the Argentinians will believe that in the first place that we are unable to mount a similar defence to our previous one and also quite rightly that our great leader would not have the ***** to do it anyway!
I will be very surprised if they don't make a move eventually. The value of that oil is enormous.

Yes, our armed forces very overstretched at the moment.
It's quite simple though really; if you try and take what isn't yours, we'll stop you. That's the message we should be sending out. We shouldn't give so much as an inch in my opinion.

List of countries by number of troops - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
We have less men, less fighting vehicles, less planes, less boats etc etc than even France.
