Your gonna have to give us more info than that if you want some advise...
Also do a search, there is loads of info on New York.
Presuming your on a decent budget for hotel - Bryant Park Hotel - we stayed here xmas 2007 and it was great. Perfect location for everything
Cheapest flights normally with American Airlines. Book direct with them

Don't go up the Empire state building, do the Rockerfeller instead just before it gets dark - get a better view of skyline without queing and get day and night views.
Don't go to Statue of liberty, get the staten island ferry. It's free and quicker.
Book meals in advance.
Find out whats on at Madison Sq Gardens and book tickets.
Walk over Brooklyn bridge, but from Brooklyn to Manhatten, as you will not have to keep turning around.
Central Park
Grand Central
China town and little Italy
Avoid Macys and Bloomingdales.
Go to B&H photograhy
Take some comfortable shoes and walk a lot

If you want to do any clothes shopping go to the Jersey Gardens Mall instead of 5th Avenue - all designer stuff, but much cheaper. It's close to Newark airport but you can get a bus from central Manhattan.

i had my honeymoon there last august we stayed at the central park hotel which was close to central park and close to time square but it depends on your budget but as above top of the rock dont go to central park zoo there are more animals outside your back door trust me and you have to go to ellis island its amazing its where every immegrant went to get into america its quite spooky as a lot of people got turned down and families got split up i found my great great uncle who immegrated there in the 1920's spooky erm ground zero is at the pure size of it and take the tour buses its very interesting and if you shop macy's they offer a 20 % discount if you take your passport there as your a tourist

Algonquin is a good hotel - get a room above the 10th floor if you can.
There's a free tour of Grand Central Station 3 or 4 times a week - I found it interesting.
Weather can be variable. Friends went in March last year and it was below freezing all the time. I was there in May and it was in the 90s.
