Am I being paranoid
Got some bits for sale and so far the conversation is going like this:
I reply, given that this is Scoobyruth's first post on a new account:
The thread - https://www.scoobynet.com/private-fo...ml#post9343261
Then I get a PM, to which I reply as follows:
There's 3 parts, airbox, resonator and snorkel - £55 plus delivery and paypal fees. The snorkel is modified though and won't go back on with the standard airbox/resonator.
Excuse me for being cautious, but as a new member with a first post I will need some verifiable contact details before I hand out paypal details. Please don't be offended but I'm sure you would be just as cautious. I don't even know your name although I could guess it is Ruth!
Jon
Is it just me or does this appear a little untoward
Then I get a PM, to which I reply as follows:

Call it a gut feeling, it just doesn't feel right - never had my paypal hacked but I have had my ebay and email hacked in the past so I suppose I'm just a little sensative

^^ How can they hack it unless you have a simple password ... just change it to something random incl letters, numbers & CAPS. Or get them to send you a cheque albeit then you need to reveal your home address ...

I wouldn't be sending anything out to someone with limited number of posts and a very new member, even if they pay you via paypal and you wait to transfer that into your bank account before you send the items, it can always be a hijacked account they are using and Paypal will be demanding the money off you should that be the case.

Passwords have always been upper and lower case, and numbers - not completely random but memorable to me all the same. You'd have to do a Vulcan mind melt to get to those memories though

Jon, has the member been back in touch since you sent the PM back? Have they been online since your reply?
They may not have been paying full attention to your original reply on the thread, and therefore just told you what they wanted, not giving the details you asked for. It may have been an oversight.
Personally, and this is no disrespect at all to the new member, but I would be cautious. Not because they are dodgy, but just because it's best to be as safe as possible. They will need to give you details if they want the stuff, so if you haven't heard anything yet, hang fire and see if you get a reply you are comfortable with. If not, well just wait until someone else comes along.

seems perfectly normal to me, she needs your paypal email address to send you money
the other options involve handing out your name & address (cheque) or bank details (transfer) so Paypal is definately the safest IMO
nobody can do anything with your email address alone and if I look in your profile on here I've already got it
she is also a paid up SN+ member, so the club have her details

It's not so much of an issue handing out the paypal address - but the general feeling towards the approach is that once the stuff is gone will I get a chargeback. Anyway - my last PM seems to have scared them off
