Ok the story is my daughter and BF have borrowed money to buy a car he could not get the finace so she had to get it in her name, they have been together for 6 years but something is telling me what if they split, and as she is a non driver where will she stand if they ever did split. The car will have to be insured in his name but i did say to her that if they split say goodbye to the car and you will still have to pay for it.

If its her loan then it is her responsibility to repay it.
Log book doesnt necessarilly mean ownership of the vehicle , it just denotes who is the keeper of it.

did she get a receipt from the previous owner when she bought the car
if she did not or it is in the BF's name, just get him to write a receipt to her stating she is the legal owner

Its all about proving ownership, if she can do this then she is OK. She would need to show that the loan was in her name and it was for the car in question. Also she would need a receipt for the car once again in her name. I cant understand why he would need the registration in his name as its no proof of ownership. But if that was in your daughters name it would help her case.

Dont get me wrong he is a nice boy and will be sharing the payments, i`m just thinking of the what could be`s. The car was bought private with cash and he says to put my daughter on the logbook would mean he would have to start a policy in her name with him as a named driver.

I think it depends on the insurance company. I seem to recall an insurance company I used once that wasn't interested in providing cover to people who's name wasn't on the logbook. I think I bought a new car and my Mrs had my old car which was obviously still in my name.

Why cant he get finance on his own?
I'd be careful here, my mate got a personal loan out and gave his girlfriend the cash to buy a car. All receipts were in her name so when they split up 2 months later, he was left with a 12 grand debt to cover whilst she kept the car.
In the end, the only way he could get the car back was talking to his ex's dad as the mother was a nasty piece of work like the daughter.
Can I just ask, why they are sharing payments on the car if your daughter doesnt drive?

No credit rating even though he has a good job, they are sharing the payments as my daughter will make sure he stumps up his share, as i also think she is the boss in the relationship. And having a nice car is what they have always wanted.
