Question Daffs that arnt Daffs

There has to be some green fingered ones among the iphone geeks on here

Had what we thought must be daffodils out the back , but they just havnt done anything ie flowered - but everything else is blooming infact nearly over for daffs.

Iv just dug them all up in disgust , and noticed they have a flowery stem fairly low down..

The bulb looks like an onion and they proliferate well underground

They're just flowering a bit late this year (or at their 'proper' time, due to the 'proper winter we've had! ). Could also depend on the type of daff, or they could be coming up blind.

Not as far as i could see Oldsplice , but last year they/the bulbs were under amongst a field of grass/weeds which i cleared in the autumn or thereabouts and thence replanted the bulbs where i wanted them

The plot was chocker with the bulbs under the surface - im still surprised they didnt show their heads/flowers even amongst that undergrowth

In that case, they may well flower either late or next year. The move has probably confused them.

i Guess so , cheers

Not sure what coming up blind means , these things have PLENTY of green leaves and from others it looks like the flower comes from a split stamen/leave

We are awash with them everywhere down here, especially in the bank hedges. Lovely sight.

Wll there you go see - i knew it wasnt a daff ( it was the lady next door said it was) - the leaves are incredibly similar

and theirs have done nothing either ..

Thought bluebells grow in shady woods however rather than coastal fringes - iv binned nearly all of them now anyway

..its not a hyacinth then ?

*sigh*

They haven't flowered yet, because it's not their flowering time yet! And no, it's not a hyacinth.

Daffs leaves are not as bright green and glossy.........more of a matt greyish-green. Shame you dumped them all.

All is not lost oldsplice . The ones i transplanted to a pot iv rebedded and are looking perky the flowers anyway - hopefully theyll make it. The ones i binned iv also rescued and replanted with manure etc ,just have to wait and see

These mus be the weed variety , they are very prolific at reproducing under ground

If you plant bluebells in your garden you might be sorry. They spead like wildfire. My dad planted some and we never could get rid of them.

Thats kinda what i thought Les ,the virginia varity ? - we certainly didnt plant them originally
Had no idea they were there these past 2 years , certainly no flowers . i think they must have just spread underground lol , unearthed when i did over the whole plot ( only 8 by 15 feet ) it was just a weed infested grassy bit of land before i returned it to bare soil.

Yes I think they do spread underground. Took a lot of work to get rid of them.
