This is the next iphone...
As convincing proof as you're going to get
http://gizmodo.com/5520164/this-is-apples-next-iphone
"You are looking at Apple's next iPhone. It was found lost in a bar in Redwood City, camouflaged to look like an iPhone 3GS. We got it. We disassembled it. It's the real thing, and here are all the details."
"Why we think it's definitely real
We're as skeptical—if not more—than all of you. We get false tips all the time. But after playing with it for about a week—the overall quality feels exactly like a finished final Apple phone—and disassembling this unit, there is so much evidence stacked in its favor, that there's very little possibility that it's a fake. In fact, the possibility is almost none. Imagine someone having to use Apple components to design a functioning phone, from scratch, and then disseminating it to people around the world. Pretty much impossible. Here are the reasons, one by one.
It has been reported lost
Apple-connected John Gruber—from Daring Fireball—says that Apple has indeed lost a prototype iPhone and they want it back:
I shall wait for this i think

I'm still hoping for more, the looks are great but I expect some ground breaking to take place. Multitouch rear is still possible, especially as it's flat... Hmm!

General Counsel is their top notch lawyer - it's how it's done in big US companies. He'll be an ex partner of one of the bigger **** kicking law firms now employed full time by Apple...

Somethings on the internet are actually true
Gizmodo said if they get a formal request for its return then they would, Apple did just that, formally requesting its return - no need for further heavy handedness.
California the law states, "If it is lost, the owner has three years to reclaim or title passes to the owner of the premises where the property was found. The person who found it had the duty to report it." Which, actually, the guys who found it tried to do, but were pretty much ignored by Apple.
So there you go, Apple asking for it back

I recon pricing for this wil be silly as they have mentioned about an 80gig hard drive and when you consider how much a 64gig touch is. I don't like the idea of the micro sim as it means you can't use your sim in any other phone bar the iphone so sort of ruins any resale of the phone??

Absolutely it's a game changer, 80 gig in your pocket!! Just like all the other phones.
The case is supposed to improve reception, which will please some.

Oh yeah in Apple world a troll is someone who criticises the 'brand'
The fact is for weeks I have been told by someone on here there are no reception issues with the iPhone and then they make a change to improve signal reception.
If pointing that out is your definition of trolling then so be it.

Gizmodo were being pillocks as they wanted to return the phone if Apple went on record and admitted it was a prototype of the next iPhone. Only reason for this is to get a story.
The reason Apple has said the phone was stolen is quite probably due to the fact that Gizmodo paid $5000 for the phone, in effect paying for stolen goods, which I have a feeling might be a little naughty.
The other factor is, should they have outed the chappy who lost the phone (Did he really lose it, or was it a bit of guerilla marketing by Apple?). We all make mistakes and this was a pretty big **** up, but they could have protected his name and let him go to Apple on his own and report the loss, rather than having the whole of geekdom know who he is.
As for removably battery, I thought the set of pictures showed a break in the case on one side that could have indicated a removal battery?

Call me cynical but I think the whole lot is viral advertising to intentionally "leak" info about Apples's up and comming phone.
Its great publicity; "accidentally" lose a phone, and it magically turns up in the hands of a very large and widespread Apple freindly geekoid blog (well, before this alledged "lost" iphone, at least ).

F1 Fan/chefdude....
Please, can we play nicely and not let a perfectly good thread descend into a tit for tat exchange between people with different views about a device (which, whether you think it's a pile of sh*te or the best thing since sliced bread, only people with too much disposable income will contemplate spending their hard earned on)...
What the **** is wrong with one of these?

The only thing i'm interested in with this is the release day when i'm hoping the 3gs prices will drop. I'm still on the 3g iphone and does everything I want without any issues but if it's reasonable enough to upgrade to the 3gs with faster cpu then i'll do it. I'm on £20 a month so not going for the new handset or officially upgrading to 3gs via o2 and be put back up to £35 a month again.

It isn't something Apple has done previously as far as I'm aware, but this could be their first foray
Oh, and I've seen mention now that the prototype does NOT have a user removable battery That is one feature I would really have loved, but it does make sense as Apple seems to be moving away from user removable stuff, look at the latest Macbooks, they don't have user removable batteries (a real flaw I feel)
