Default Watching the World Cup in HD

I currently have a SKY+ box and a HD TV.

What is the best way to get a HD signal so that I can watch the football in HD.

I know that both ITV and BBC are brodcasting the football in HD, but can i pick this up from my SKY+ box, or do i need to buy some more kit.

I am getting confused between Freeview and Freesat, and I am reluctant to sign up to SKY HD when i only really want to watch the football for 6 weeks.

Thanks

You can't get HD from a Sky+ box. The only way will be to upgrade, you'll get HD 3D in the autumn too

Freesat has HD but you'll need a receiver. I think an existing Sky dish can provide Freesat without moving it. My Panny TV has Freesat in built so check your TV first.

you can get freeview HD (need a HD box)but that depends on the transmitter you're on.

Your best bet would be get the Humax HD Box http://www.richersounds.com/product/...a-foxsathd-box

You need an HD capable box in the first place.

If you don't want to upgrade to Sky HD then the easiest thing would be to buy a Freesat HD box (about £100, maybe less), unplug the cable from your SKY+ box (the one which goes from the dish to SKY+ box) and plug it in to the freesat box. Your Sky dish will pick up the Freesat signal.

Are there any suitable splitters available so that the signal could be sent to both a Sky + box and an additional Freesat HD box?

Not that I know of. For about £30 you can buy a kit which allows you to swap the 2 cable connector on your sky dish (the LNB) to a quad connector so you can then run an additional 2 cables to wherever you like in the house. The kits also include the extra cable.

Got mine off ebay.

This kind of thing. As long as you can get access to your sky dish, it's a piece of cake to fit.

Looks like they do do splitters, not sure how good they are. Worth a try though for the price

Sounds like a plan, seems pretty simple to.

I guess i could cancel my Sky+ and just stick with the Freesat HD. We dont have any subscription channels to Sky and i imagine most of what we watch will be available on Freesat anyway...

Cheers

Freeview HD is being launched in the coming weeks. You will need a Freeview HD box which will work with your aerial.

BTW I have a Freesat TV and it works fine with my Sky sat feed.

There's been alot of arguments about the HD channels, on Freesat certainly, that there are hardly any real HD programmes. Alot of them are SD programmes upscaled to HD.

Even Eastenders isn't in HD yet. I think we've got a long way to go yet.

Sorry to change the subject a bit but will a Virgin V+ box give me the HD coverage of the World Cup?
I've got the V+ box and the XL and sports packages but not an HD screen - this might convince me to get a new screen for the footie.

Can you see the BBC and ITV HD channels in your listing at the moment, obviously your TV won't display them in HD but you should be able to see that they exist?

Virgin website is particularly unclear but it looks like you do get HD channels with the XL package and V+ HD box.

I have an offer from Sky for free HD installation and HD box and free HD for 6months.

If anyone wants to take this offer up - let me know. It's for new Sky subscribers, existing customers need to take out a multi-room deal and get HD.

I have 3 vouchers here which can be posted as soon as.
