Suit
I have just been made redundant , so as I don't have a decent suit to my name, I need to get one for prospective interviews, would like it to be fairly modern and most importantly not very expensive, any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Not sure if they will have anything, or if there is one close to you but this is where we got a suit from a few years back and they have a fairly wide selection iirc.
The one we went to was at a retail outlet, so may be worth a visit to one for some possible reductions.
Good luck with the job hunting.

I deliberately have only one suit, of a colour which makes it usable for weddings and funerals. Its worth getting a decent one though. Have not used mine more than twice in the last year.

I read on here a year or so ago that if you're claiming job seekers you can also put in a claim for an 'interview' suit.
Worth asking at the dole office.

It all depends on the area you live in, up here DWP have an account with Burton's. The limits vary depending on the time of year and which way the wind is blowing. Limit was around £150 up here, and could include the suit, shirt, tie and shoes. Its not too hard to fit within that budget in Burton's and get something that looks good.
If you want to bust the budget you can always add some of your own cash to the deal when you are in the shop. After all, the shop does not really care who pays, only that they are paid in full.

When I got my interview for the Corus apprenticeship scheme last year (I was 24 by the way so not a kiddie), the Jobcentre said I had a 'pot' of upto £250 for things like work boots, an interview suit etc.
Went in and they use Burtons menswear for the suits etc. They rang the local shop up and got quotes for a decent suit, shirt, tie and shoes. Came upto about £200 something I think. The suit is very good material (not the shiney stuff you get) and good quality overall. didn't cost me a penny (as I barassic anyways) and I felt good going into an interview looking smart.
Worth looking into definitely

I wear a suit every day to work and have over the years been through quite a few.
M&S are by far the hardest wearing suits I have owned. been to the dry cleaners loads and still look fine. Much better than other very expensive tailoured items that look like death after a year of use... so if it is value for money and longevity your after...... M&S all the way..

As a reluctant, occasional, suit wearer I give M&S my vote, simple suits at good value and just like Leslie mine does Funerals and Weddings.
I had a lovely Boss suit once, ruined it having a bit too much fun, expensive.

make sure your suit is wool, and that you get a classic cut, I prefer double breasted and no turn ups, that way it won't go out of fashion.
M&S are ok, Moss Bros have got a sale on at the moment or pick one off ebay.
Do you have to pay back the JSA hand out if you get the job?

IMO a suit is like a watch and a pair of shoes; they will be seen by everyone so need to be top notch!
I got a dark grey Hugo Boss Angelico Palma (i think), from a shop in the trafford centre correctly fitted for me for £500 but it came with two Eton shirts and a Duchamp tie and cufflink set. It looks the part on any occasion and has done for a couple of years now! It only comes out about 3 or 4 times a year though and is dry cleaned regularly!
