Just discovered today that somehow my work have been using the wrong National Insurance Number for the last 3 years, it's one digit out. Does anyone know what happens with the 3 years of not paying into my National Insurance?
The previous 7 years were fine and i have all my P60's.

have you been paying NI? if so I would imagine it is not beyond the wit of man to have it reallocated to your account
if you have not been paying NI then it does not matter what number you have, surely

Do worry ![EEK!](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/eek.gif)
Tell your Payroll to sort it, and then get it in writing from your tax office that all your contributions are up to date. If you don't get it in writing from your tax office that everything is fine the first you will hear of it is when you come to claim your pension. Good luck in getting evidence from how ever many decades ago about this incident if there has been some mistake....happened to a relative of mine, they never managed to prove they had paid their stamp...they wanted documents and payslips for 20+ yrs ago to prove they paid it

I have to say I was mighty impressed with the UK system .
I am 65 and left the UK in 1981.
I am entitled to 20 years of the NI contributions I paid from 1961.
I called the number in the North East and was immediately connected to a lovely lady.
I had no data supporting my claim - other than my name , DOB , addresses etc.
Within a couple of seconds my NI number was retrieved - She could not advise me though as any claim has to be conducted in writing - for obvious reasons.
What is apparent there is an amazing data base available to the pensions department , so I would not be too concerned about the error that has transpired.

i have heard of some unfair judgements over NI payments and how it can affect pensions even though it was due to an oversight.
Not having paid the NI for 3 years even if it was the firm's fault could have an effect in the distant future unless it is put right surely.
We can all be a bit daft Trout, even without trying.
It must be a significant amount that is unpaid over the three years, I have no idea how much, but it would be ever so annoying if they reduced Turbo's OAP because of non payment over that length of time. Hopefully they will have a record of where the cash has all gone anyway. Sometimes it can get very difficult to deal with a government department.
Isn't it law that you have to pay the NI, or have I been wasting my money all that time?
