Default Renting cars

Situation is this guys. My mother is getting married at the beginning of August. It's her second wedding and this time she's having it in a church rather than a registry office. This isn't an all singing all dancing wedding and things are on a budget. She obviously wants a nice car to drop her off at the church but hasn't the ££ (approx 350 I think) to rent one or two posh old cars for the day. Now she'll be moving into a new marital home afterwards so the idea of family clubbing together to pay for it isn't any good as she'd like vouchers or cashes to do some decorating (she's just swapping to a care in the community type job so is oober skint at the minute).

So I suggested rather than looking at an old Roller or something, to rent a decent looking modern saloon car. There is an enterprise near to me and I've priced up a Vectra/Passat type of car which me and the Mrs would pay for as our wedding present to her.

Do you think they would mind us putting a few ribbins onto a car for the day or would I just keep schtum. Our family seem have car's like a boring MPV, small hatch or 3 door coupe so nobody has a respectable looking saloon car which a bride can get out of respectfully (I wish I'd kept my Scoob now ).

Another option would be to ask if anyone on here would take a few quid to lend their pride and joy for the afternoon.

Any suggestions?

If I'm on duty, I'll turn up and drive her in my company car, for free

The lights and sirens will cost you extra

Ha ha, good one!

I can't see why they should object to the ribbons COB, or even why they should even know about them, unless they are supplying the driver as well.

Hope it all goes well anyway.

As folk know cash is tight hat my end, so I could prolly afford a Merc at a stretch but it would be for 2 days as she marries on the Saturday and the place is shut on Sunday

Unlimited mileage though for the local enterprise.

Dont ask - it has no bearing on the transaction and all youre doing is empowering someone and inviting them to create obstacles.

Thanks for the suggestion Dave but £175 a day is out my league. £350 for the day was for two Rollers up here (for some reason the company want you to have 2 cars not one when renting ).

May pop into Enterprise and see what the other alternative in the Vectra range is.

Some of the car dealers offer a weekend test drive. Just a thought. Seem to remember Vauxhall did it with the Vectra.

A few weeks ago, scoobyvirgin and I flew to Edinburgh. When we arrived, we picked up a hire car which was not booked - I'm sure it was only £36 for the day. It should've been a Corsa, but we got a free upgrade. It wasn't an executive saloon, but I'm sure they can supply something cheap.

The front end looks ugly to me.
