Default Thinking of going travelling over summer...

I am about to put my car up for sale, and i have been thinking recently that when my exams are over i may go travel for a couple of months or so. Either that or i may just go and stay in Miami, cali, or mexico for a long while..,

Has anyone stayed or toured parts of america for long periods of time?

Any recommendations?

I'd certainly not want to spend much time in any one place, I'd want to see as much as possible.

Vegas, New York, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Rockies, San Fran, Great Lakes, Niagra,(Buffalo)

Mate of mine sold everything he owned (apart from what he could carry...) he had a massive CD collection, his XR2i (showing me age) and buggered off 'round the World for 10 months.

He came back with a new outlook on life, loads of fantastic memories and my undying hatred for sending me a postcard when he was sat on a beach in Fiji; right in the middle of the most miserable cold wet November morning I had ever witnessed. The git.

He did Hong Kong, China, Fiji, Australia, New Zealand & America.

My daughter did a lengthy tour around South America. Thought it was fantastic. She managed to keep to a limited budget. But she did go with a pal which is possibly better than a lone trip. dl

North America may be pricey and South america will have more of a cultural experience, the best travel tips you will ever get will be from people you meet on the road. Stay in hostels as if you are on your own they are a good way to meet people, learn to spot the single female traveler who is a it lonely as they will be good for a bunk up.

Do it! One of my biggest regrets was not going travelling before having kids.

I went to Mexico in March and loved the place (i'm 26)! Have you thought about Thailand / vietnam / laos / australia?

A mate of mine packed up and fooked off about 18 months ago, he went to Australia on a 12 month working visa to travel and work and then met loads of new people and went off all over South East Asia. He's never looked back, and probably won't come back

Do it!

Wink

A guy called around to my house last Sunday to buy a product I sell. He apologised for being in a bit of a rush but said he had a trip the next day and was trying to get things sorted. I assumed he was off to see him mum or something and I casually asked where he was off to.........

"Around the world for a couple of years", he said

Well i think I'd rather go stay in Miami or Cali for the summer, perhaps change between the two half way, Just have an easy chilled summer and a greatly needed break, or I'd like to see some of America anyway, Australia, Japan, Thailand, not sure where else. My potential plans are very loose at the moment, its just a thought i have been pondering for a while.

Are there any websites or agents who deal specifically with people wanting to travel or go to a certain place for a long period of time?

I know you can get "world tour flight tickets" or what ever they are called, but have no idea about how to find out more.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for all the previous comments, I think it would be something I'd regret if i didn't do it.

Davyboy is right, keep travelling and see all those places, well worth the effort. You might as well do it while you have the chance. Not too sure that Miami would have that much to offer compared with other places though.

Miami is supposed to be fantastic provided you have cash to spend. Women artdeco and scarface. What more could you need ? Apart from talking to frank when you get back.

Well Miami has quite a big clubbing scene especially for house. Being a house DJ this excites me

I could also pursue the DJ-ing thing out there.

Yes I was thinking of scenic wonders rather than the night life. You can do that bit in most places.

Sorry, my mistake i should have explained a bit better. I'm either thinking of going to stay in one place, like miami and just be able to relax and enjoy the place, if not i want to tour the whole of america and view the sights. Cheers for input though.

Ah yes I see, well it sounds as though Miami is good for what you want to do then.
